535. James Roof (11/28/1818-3/15/1909) was born in Newton, New Jersey and died in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. James moved to Bradford County, Pennsylvania in 1830. He married Emeline Lantz (7/7/1821-2/15/1889) on January 17, 1834 in Franklin Township, New Jersey.
Emeline Lantz was born in Franklin Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, and died in Bradford County, Pennsylvania on the place which was the family home for nearly fifty years. She was the fourth daughter of Peter and Judith VanNess Lantz. She was the sister of Charles Roof's wife. They had four children:

- 5352. Judie Roof married B.L. Lewis who was born in Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
- 5353. Dell Roof married George Grace.
- 5354. Joseph L. Roof (b. 2/11/1847) was born in Franklindale, Bradford County, Pennsylvania and was reared and educated at that place. He married Ella McKee (d. 12/23/1878) on March 24, 1874 in Franklindale, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Ella was the daughter of Stern and Wilmina McKee, and the great-granddaughter of Leonard McKee, one of the first settlers.
Joseph attended the State Normal School at Mansfield, Pennsylvania for one term, and then the Susquehanna Collegiate Institute at Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania for one term. Joseph was a thrifty farmer and successful in his enterprises. He owned some very fine blooded horses and had a peach orchard of 500 trees. The farm consisted of 106 acres. In politics, Joseph was a Democrat. Joseph and Ella had two children:
- 53541. James Raymond Roof (10/3/1875-9/27/1958) was born in Franklindale, Bradford County, Pennsylvania and died in Monroeton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. He is buried in the Christian Church Cemetery in Franklindale, Bradford County, Pennyslvania. He married Emma Jane Brown (b. 1/11/1877) on June 5, 1900.
Raymond Roof devoted the greater part of his life to the lumber business. He operated portable sawmills, buying timber tracts to obtain the lumber and sold mine props. He was in charge of forestry road construction at the Laquin Citizens Conservation Corps project during the 1930's and later supervised rural electrification projects in Bradford and Susquehanna counties. He was a member of the Bradford Lodge, # 167, I.O.O.F. at Towanda for 54 years. Members of this Lodge gave him a party at his home where he was presented with his fifty-year jewel. He lived in Monroeton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania for 47 years.
Emma Brown was the daughter of William Brown and Euphemia Hatch, whose family is traced to William Brown, son of Francis Brown, of Brandon, Suffolk, England, born 1609, and settled in 1635 at Salem, Massachusetts. Francis Brown intermarried with a daughter of John Howland, the Mayflower Pilgrim. From them descended John Brown, who between 1795 and 1798, started to migrate from New Jersey to Monroeton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. John Brown was taken sick and died on the road. His widow, Jane Miller, was a sister of Daniel Miller and Mrs. Samuel Cranmer of Monroeton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. She came on with her two sons, Samuel and Aaron, the former of whom settled at New Albany, and the latter in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. The Roof home was pleasantly situated on Maple Street in Monroeton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. They had three children:
- 535411. Thelma Ruth Roof (5/16/1901-11/27/1991) died in Beaverton, Oregon. She married W. Ira Bull who was born in East Lansing, Michigan.
- 535412. Ninita Roof (11/30/1902-6/12/1994) died in Lisle, Illinois. She married Richard Stilwell who was born in Chicago, Illinois.
- 535413. Bergen Roof (1/1/1904-5/15/1995) married Mary Hoy of State College, Pennsylvania. They resided in Teaneck, New Jersey. Their last known residence was in Meadville, Pennsylvania. They had two children:
- 5354131. Bergen James Roof.
- 5354132. Mary Jo Roof.
- 53542. Mina Emeline Roof (b. 12/23/1878) married U. Grant Crofut of Franklindale, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
