        1431. Edward Francis Werkheiser (2/21/1860-2/7/1944) is buried in the Liberty Cemetery, near Atkinson, Illinois. He was born in a log cabin in Northampton County, Pennslyvania. He went to Atkinson around 1880 and walked to the Jerome Black farm. The mud was so deep that he lost his rubbers on the way. He worked for several years in that vicinity, later taking up farming for himself. His brother Charles came seven years later. In 1906 a half brother, Oliver, came. Two years later in 1908, another half brother, Dewitt, came. Their home at that time was in New Jersey. They all farmed in Cornwall Township. Edward was a Tax Collecter in 1903 and 1904, in Cornwall. He was also the school director and assessor in Burns Township. He was a charter memeber of the Farm Bureau of Henry County.

        He worked on the farm for $21 a month until December, then $9 a month for the winter. He paid a $1 a month to have his washing done. On November 1, 1891, the George Benedicts moved to Geneseo and he rented their farm. On March 9, 1892, he hired the J. E. Whitecombs to work for him at $250 a year and he paid $6 a month board to them. In 1893, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lane came to keep house for him. They had a daughter Mary, whom he married two years later on February 13, 1895, in Illinois.

        Mr. and Mrs. Werkheiser and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lane lived together until the death of Mr. Lane on December 19, 1909. On March 1, 1914, the family moved to Burns Township, where Mrs. Lane passed away on August 15, 1915. They lived on the Tayler farm twenty eight years before moving to Kewanee, where Edward passed away in 1944 and his wife Mary passed away in 1948. They were the parents of eight children:

        14311. Verla Alberta Werkheiser (1/16/1896-11/10/1973). Verla is buried in Pleasant View Cemetery, in Kewanee, Illinois. Verla married Carl Bates (7/19/1894-9/14/1982) on February 21, 1921.         14312. Alvin Earl Werkheiser was a farmer. Alvin went by Earl until he had to use Alvin on government papers, etc. No one knows him by Alvin.         14314. John Carl Werkheiser (9/22/1902-11/8/1974) married Hazel McNell on October 19, 1927. John and Hazel had three children:
