Thinking

The very fact that a person can think simultaneously and equally well in two languages means that his thinking processes work in a more healthy and positive manner.

True bilinguals are likely to process information in the language that is being used in their discussion. Thus, they may continue to count or perform arithmetic operations in the language that it is presented. They may also dream in either language equally well.

This process is called "language switching." Sociolinguists call it "code switching."

Those who think in both languages simultaneously will be more successful translators than those who struggle to think of le bon mot, the precise word in the second language.
