Before the Second World War, people were sure that French would be the international language. Bilingual documents such as postal materials were written in French and in the local language.
Today, it is quite clear that English has replaced French as the leading language. It is no longer the issue whether this can be attributed to American imperialism and world leadership, to Hollywood, or to the computer.
