Immersion programs are not likely to turn your child into a bilingual, but they will help him learn a second language in a brief period of time. They often expect your child to visit the country in which the minority language is spoken, for a specified amount of time. At that time the child absorbs the language and culture. That second issue, the culture, is optional.
