Trace Adkins Bio

Trace Adkins is one of my favorite performers. His CDs are always in my player, and the taped versions are in my vehicles. I never get tired of hearing his voice!

The Early Years

Trace Adkins began performing with a gospel group when he was still in high school in Sarepta, Louisiana. He continued to sing gospel throughout his years at Louisiana Tech University, where he studied petroleum technology. His rich bass voice had his singing teacher suggesting a career in opera, but Trace loved the traditional country music. After working for a few years on an oil rig, Trace left to persue his music career, playing one honkey-tonk after another across the south and southwest.

For Trace, being "on the road" was a real learning experience. As he said, "I was on the road playing in Texas and New Mexico, where I'd get in a van pulling a trailer full of equipment, and you've got six guys crammed into the van trying to get to the next town and do the next show. You don't get any respect, you don't get applause, you don't sign autographs and you don't get any pats on the back. It's like being an offensive lineman - there's no glory in it."

Dreamin' Out Loud

In the 18 months after Dreamin' Out Loud was released, Trace Adkins became a bona fide "breakout artist" with his songs consistently at the top of the charts. Dreamin' Out Loud is fast approaching one million in sales and his concerts have set records for attendance all across the country.

His first single, "There's A Girl In Texas" made it to the Top Twenty. His next, "Every Light In The House Is On" went to the Top Five. "(This Ain't) No Thinkin' Thing" was his first #1 song, but will surely not be his last. The fans love him!

Big Time

Trace Adkins went into the studios the second time, with a goal of surpassing his first album. With Big Time he achieved his goal. This second album is a showcase for Trace Adkins' vocal range and skills. The light-hearted lyrics of "Took Her To The Moon" and "Nothin' But Taillights" show Trace's humorous side and offer a bit of comic relief to the gut-wrenching emotions of the album's ballads. "The Rest of Mine" is his tribute to his new wife, Rhonda.

On November 2nd, 1999 Trace released his third album, "More...". The first single from the new album, Don't Lie quickly moved into the Top 40. With More... Trace shows more depth and control with his velvet voice, setting himself up for a long and lasting career.

On August 13th,1998 I had the opportunity to see Trace in concert when he performed nearby. It was a great concert! To see my concert pictures, and hear a little bit about the concert, follow the link below.
