Columbus is located in south-central Wisconsin about 26 miles north of Wisconsin's capital
city, Madison.  Columbus is a unique community with many resources: peaceful residential neighborhoods on tree lined streets, a modern hospital, quality schools, a variety of churches
and recreational opportunities, and a number of growing businesses and industries.  Columbus
has something to offer everyone.

Columbus was founded in 1840; eight years before Wisconsin was admitted to the union.  The first settler, Major Elbert Dickason, built a log cabin and a sawmill on the west side of the Crawfish River in 1839.  Yet long before that native Americans inhabited the area, as indicated by artifacts which have been found.  After the first influx of Yankee settlers from the east, many others of German, Welsh, Scandinavian and Irish heritage followed.  The family names of many of these early settlers live on as street names in the city -- a city rich in architecture and social history.

Architecture is an attraction Columbus offers the casual tourist or seasoned student of design.  The city is particularly noted for its elegant turn-of-the-century homes and commercial buildings, and strives to preserve and promote this particular heritage.

Located at the crossroads of five state highways, served by AMTRAK and less than 45 minutes from several airports with both private and commercial service, Columbus is an accessible
community with all the charm and character of a small town.  You are invited to discover out "jewel" and experience all the opportunities which await.

In addition to many local points of interest (see city map), Columbus is within easy driving distance of other scenic, recreational, cultural and educational attractions; Wisconsin Dells, the Experimental Aircraft Association Air Show and Museum in Oshkosh, Horicon Marsh, Old World Wisconsin near Eagle.  Also nearby are Devil's Lake State Park, Circus World Museum new Baraboo, Cave of the Mounds and House on the Rock.  We are just a short drive from Milwaukee and all it has to offer, the State Capital and the University of Wisconsin in Madison.  For those more into outdoor recreation, we have bicycle and snowmobile trails as well as canoeing.
