Betty Barstow, the secretary to private detective Dan Hurley, is on her way to a costume ball when she decides to investigate a crime her boss didn't want to look into. She's wearing a superhero-style costume (she was on the way to a costume ball, remember?) and when she encounters crooks and uses her jiu-jitsu skills to beat them, she comes off as a superheroine, and so she decides to make a practice of fighting crime.

In the modern era she was brought back. In Invaders she was shown using recently-acquired (or invented?) armor to help the Invaders against the Battle-Axis during World War Two, for which she was made an honorary member of the Invaders. In Thunderbolts and Citizen V it was revealed that she was a founding member of the Penance Council, the leaders of the V-Battalion, when the Council was founded in 1946. She was active, with the V-Battalion, since 1946. Citizen V v2 #1 showed her attending the funeral of the Union Jack (II) in 1953. She is still active with V-Battalion today but is suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.

She has no powers, but is an expert at jiu-jitsu and has a set of armor with "scorpion stings."
