NEW YORK, NY -- Sami Kapanen and Simon Gagne each had a goal and an assist for
the Philadelphia Flyers in a 4-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday.
Kapanen netted his first goal since December 27 late in the first period with
help from Gagne and set up the 23-year-old winger for a 3-2 lead with 2:28
remaining in the middle stanza. Mark Recchi tallied his team-leading 17th goal
and Keith Primeau chipped in with two assists for Philadelphia, which has won
three of its last four. Robert Esche turned aside 23 of 25 shots to raise his
record to 13-6-4 with a 1.93 goals-against average. Mike Dunham, who was pulled
in favor of Jussi Markkanen to begin the third period, surrendered three goals
on 20 shots in the loss. Anson Carter had a goal and an assist for New York,
which has lost three straight and is winless over its last five.
