PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Mark Recchi had a goal and two assists for the Philadelphia
Flyers in a 5-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday. Recchi
extended his point-scoring streak to seven games late in the second period when
he helped set up John LeClair for a 2-1 lead. The 36-year-old winger assisted
on a power-play tally by Kim Johnsson early in the third and netted his team-
leading 19th goal midway through the stanza, giving him three goals and 14
points since January 22. LeClair added an assist and Keith Primeau registered a
goal and an assist for Philadelphia, which recorded five goals for the second
time in its last three games. Antero Niittymaki stopped 19 of the 20 shots he
faced and helped shut down five Washington power plays to pick up the win in
his NHL debut. Olaf Kolzig made 36 saves in the loss. Robert Lang tallied his
team-leading 26th marker for the Capitals, who have dropped five of their last
eight.
