NEW YORK, NY -- Sami Kapanen scored midway through the third period as the
Philadelphia Flyers edged the New York Rangers, 2-1, on Thursday. Kapanen put a
pass from Branko Radivojevic past goaltender Jussi Markkanen to break a 1-1 tie
for his first game-winner since November 13. Simon Gagne extended his goal-
scoring streak to four games with a power-play tally and Sean Burke stopped 26
shots in his season debut for Philadelphia, which has won four straight and
held its opponents to one goal in six of its last nine contests. Markkanen
allowed one goal on four third-period shots and ended with 18 saves in defeat.
Brian Leetch netted his 11th goal of the season for New York, which has lost
nine of its last 12.
