PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Alexei Zhamnov had a goal and an assist to help the
Philadelphia Flyers down the Ottawa Senators, 5-3, on Friday in a game that
featured a league-record 419 penalty minutes. Zhamnov, who extended his point-
scoring streak to six games, helped Kim Johnsson establish a 4-1 cushion on the
power play early in the second period and netted his 10th goal of the season
6:54 into the final stanza. Mark Recchi, who got into a fight with Ottawa's
Brian Smolinski late in the third, tallied his team-leading 25th goal and
Robert Esche, who was ejected after scrapping with Patrick Lalime, made 20
saves for Philadelphia, which evened the season series with the Senators at
1-1-1. Lalime gave up five goals on 30 shots in defeat. Peter Bondra netted his
fourth goal in nine games for Ottawa, which lost consecutive games for the
first time since February 3.
