EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- John LeClair registered a goal and two assists as the
Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New Jersey Devils, 3-1, on Tuesday. LeClair
set up Mark Recchi for his team-leading 26th goal of the season late in the
first period, helped Kim Johnsson establish a 2-0 lead early in the second and
added an empty-netter for his first three-point performance of the year. Recchi
added an assist and Michal Handzus chipped in with three assists for
Philadelphia, which moved seven points ahead of New Jersey for the Atlantic
Division lead. Robert Esche, who won for the third time in as many starts,
stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced. Martin Brodeur gave up two goals on 19
shots in suffering his fifth loss in his last six starts. Turner Stevenson
tallied his 11th goal of the season for the Devils, who have dropped two
straight at home after going unbeaten in their previous five.
