UNIONDALE, NY -- Arron Asham and Jason Blake each scored late in the third
period to help the New York Islanders defeat the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-2, on
Tuesday. Asham evened the score at 2-2 midway through the period for his first
goal in his last 10 games. Blake put his team ahead on a power-play strik with
five minutes remaining in regulation and Asham capped the scoring on an empty-
netter. Dave Scatchard added his third goal of the season and Garth Snow, who
turned aside all 23 shots he faced between the first and second periods, made
34 saves for New York, which improved to 12-6-0 on home ice. Jeff Hackett, who
lost five straight for the first time since January 8, 2002, allowed two goals
on nine third-period shots and ended with 26 saves in defeat. Mark Recchi
netted his team-leading 13th goal and Michal Handzus tallied his seventh of the
season for Philadelphia, which has lost five of its last six.
