Murrayfield Stadium Murrayfield Edinburgh EH12 5PJ Scotland Capacity: 67,500 Murrayfield still holds the record for the biggest attendance at a rugby game, when a crowd of just over 104,000 watched Scotland play Wales in 1975. The stadium was first used for an international in 1925, when Scotland beat England 14-11. The ground had been purchased from the old Edinburgh Polo Ground at Murrays Field in 1922 for a sum of £3800. A new-look Murrayfield was opened in 1994 by the Princess Royal, after a redevelopment costing £37million. These days the stadium has a capacity of 67,500, with the popular terracing removed because of new safety regulations and demands for all-seater stadia. |
