Evelyn is a lovely English Rose that will take your breath away when in bloom, which in my garden isn't often enough!  One of the first roses to form buds in spring, they are very slow to open, but finally unfurl into luscious saucers packed with petals.  Tints of yellow, pink, apricot, and cream blend together to create a delightful rose melody.  The harmony is fragrance.  Old rose and peach blending with a tang of lemon creates a scent sensation.
Growth is slow, and I usually get only two flushes.  In 1999 I moved my two Evelyn shrubs into a new garden at the south side of the garage.  I placed them closer together to create bulk and amended the soil to the max.
Soon after, the roses began putting out lots of new leaves.  Perhaps this change of position will encourage a better performance next year.

Spring 2000-  Evelyn has done very well in the new garden by the garage.  Growth has been moderate, but very healthy.

First bloom of the season.
