Mary Rose

I love this pretty rose!  The blossoms are so sweet and fragrant.  Some folks say they don't detect much scent in its petals, but I do.  It's a sweet, warm rosy scent that tends toward soapiness.  The shrub is very compact with a twiggy bushiness that's great in the garden.  The rose itself is luscious-- true rose pink, the shade of a young girl's first lipstick.  The blooms have a casual look that suits the informal border.  It's lovely mixed in with lilies, artemesia, sedum, and lemon thyme.
Mary Rose has a reputation for being the earliest to bloom in spring and the last to stop blossoming in the fall.  So far, Mary Rose has not been able to beat out  Heritage, which always seems to take the honors for first rose of the season in my garden.
Reliable rebloom, great color, wonderful shape, disease-resistance-- what more could you ask for in a rose?  Mary Rose is a real plus in the garden.
