I have to admit my initial prejudice against this rose.  I'm not really crazy about red and yellow roses, but it's one of my mom's favorites.  Since she lives with us now, I wanted to include roses in the garden scape that she loves.  I purchased it for her birthday, and I'm so glad I did.  What a rose! I have nothing but highest praise for all its attributes, including color.  The dark green, pointed leaves are the perfect backdrop for the golden yellow blossoms which have red-tinged petal edges.  As the rose matures, the petals blush sunset salmon, and finally, brick red fading to white.  The kaleidoscopic colors, disease-resistance, and compact nature of the shrub create a magnificent specimen.  My garden would not be complete without Rio Samba!

Rio Samba came through its first winter here with flying colors and bloomed June 3rd, 2000.
