Sterling Silver is the rose that got lavender roses noticed.  No doubt it is considered a classic just for that reason.  Other reasons to love this rose are its wonderful fragrance and magnificent blossoms.  The roses produced are really beautiful, but there is a problem.   It is quite prone to blackspot.  My bush was completely defoliated by August and never did recover for a third flush of blooms.
I had toyed with the idea of disposing of this rose, but I just couldn't do it.  Despite the inconvenience, I like Sterling Silver.  The color is unique, and the scent of even one of its lavender roses is worth any fuss.

The best rose bush, after all,
Is not that which has the fewest thorns,
But that which bears the finest roses.

Henry Van Dyke
