My name is Mittens. I was given this name by my new Mom (Jody) and brofur, Shadow...
I can't remember how I became homeless in the first place but luckily for me it was near a restaurant...
On Christmas Eve Day, I was wandering around the restaurant looking for something to eat...Not much to be found in the garbage...
Jody ("nice lady") had come to work but it wasn't that busy so she was going back home for awhile...When I saw her come out of the restaurant I ran and hid behind the dumpster...
Next thing I knew there was a can of wet food nearby...The "nice lady" had left it for me...
I usually could find ways to get in the basement of the restaurant to stay warm and dry....I heard people say that they were glad that cat is around as now there are no more mice...But it can't be living in the restaurant!!
For the next 6 months Jody rigged up a box with food and water for me outside the building..Every day she came with fresh food and water...Bad weather or not!! Even on her days off!!
Jody tried very hard for a long time to catch me but I was just too scared to come near anyone...
On Memorial Day weekend Jody got a call from work that the boss had found three kittens in the basement...Yes, they were mine!! Fooled them all didn't I ???
They put my kittens in a carrier while I cried and cried for them...Jody felt so so bad keeping me from my kittens..She thought it was the only way to catch me!!
Once Jody got to work, she and her friend Nicki spent the next seven (7) hours trying to catch me (while they were also trying to waitress!!)
Finally I was just so tired and hungry that I let Nicki put me with my kittens in the carrier...Even though I was still scared I think somehow I knew that life could only get better...
I didn't mind too much, since I was with my kittens and Jody & Nicki had such comforting voices and gentle hands!!
