MY POLISH ROOTS



First I want to introduce you to my
Weisnewsi, Slibowski and Urbanski family tree.
This introduction shows how all three families are related.



John Weisnewski came to America from Prussia
and settled in St. Joseph, Buchanan Co.,Mo.
When he had saved enough money he
sent for Johanna and Martin Urbanski and their children
Mary, Leo and Anna. Later he sent for Anna and
Michael Slibowski and their son, John.
Finally he sent for Frances.



URBANSKI


Martin Urbanski and his family came to America
on the Hamburg passenger ship in 1883.
They were on the ship
Gellert leaving Hamburg for New York
on 18 April 1883.
They came from Frankenhagen, Konitz County,
Marienwerder, West Prussia.
This area was given back to Poland after W.W.I.
They were listed as:
Martin Urbanski -- age 46, laborer;
Jone (Johanna) Urbanski -- age 36, spouse;
Marie (Mary) Urbanski -- age 6, child;
Leon (Leo) -- age 4, child;
Anna Urbanski -- age 7 mos, child.

Johanna and Martin Urbanski had
8 children (seven girls and one boy).

Leo Urbanski was Fire Chief of St. Joseph Mo.
for 25 years. He retired after serving 39 years
with the department.
His life was recounted on the “This Is Your Life”
radio show in 1950. Martin Urbanski, a native of Prussia
becamea citizen of the U.S on 11 October, 1890
in St. Joseph, at the age of 48.

Veronica Urbanski was baptized 23 May 1886
at St. Peter andPaul Catholic Church, St. Joseph, Mo
by the Rev. Kozywovos.
The Godparents were John Wisniewski and
Veronica Rospendowski.

SLIBOWSKI


There has been a discrepancy in the
names of the parents of the following Slibowsi chilldren.
Also it is to believed this surname was SLIWOWSKI at one time.

From one sorce the parents were:
Father - Jendrzej Sliwowski
b.  1820 and d. at the age of 80 in 1870.
Mother: - Marianna (perhaps Wisniewski)
b.  1825and d. at the age of 75 in 19

Another source says that Michael Slibowski parents
were Andrew and Mary Klien of Germany.
