Man's 'Rustic' Waistcoat Made from one 750grm cone of 4 ply Shetland Wool and a small amount of fine gold mohair. This was knitted accross the full bed of the knitting machine on tension 10 saving some yarn for the bands and to be worked with the mohair. A pattern was made and the pieces cut out and made up. Bias knitted bands around the arm holes and for the bands. Using both yarns together needle lace ground was worked down the front finishing with two strands of mohair worked in a V. Using both yarns tohether lon lengths of machine knitted cord was made and large Bedfordshire Spiders in bobbin lace finish the decoration. Again double button loops for fastening with metal buttons. |

'Fuchsias' Waistcoat This started off as two cones of yarn. One of 2-ply lambswool/angora mix and one cone of 100% acryllic chenille. The lambswool mix was knitted on tension 10 accross the whole bed of the knitting machine. It was then washed in the washing machine with washing liquid balls at 65C to felt the knitting. A pattern was made for the waistcoat and pieces cut out and made up. Using a knit leader the pattern shapes were transferred to the sheet and the lining was knitted on the machineusing the chenille.. The bands were knitted on the bias. lace bobbins were hung in and a ground of talllies worked over. Long twisted bugle beads were added for final decoration. |

My Tea Cosy Have you tried to find a nice thick warm tea cosy these days. If you find one I bet it is the wrong colour, This is 4-ply pure wool which has been machine knitted at tension 10 and felted in the washing machine. The nice thing is, the colour is just right for my kitchen. A perfect match to my curtains. I needed a new tea cosy so this is it. I have used applique shapes for this. When you felt, the edges of the fabric curl if you do not stitch it down to a piece of sheeting for the washing machine part. I have used the rolled edges for decoration too. |
