Jeff Van Damage vs. Kyle Winters (XWA House Show- 08-19-02)
We're in Los Angeles, California for this one, as we're just days away from the eXecution Tournament in Sacramento. The house is absolutely packed for this match, and the two hometown boys-Jeff Van Damage and Kyle Winters- get to main event this show. Anticipation is high, especially after the subtle jabs they've been taking at each other for a while, plus the great matches in their past. BACKSTORY: Back in the AWA, JVD and Kyle were the BOOYAH KNIGHTS, a corny, 70's styled teeny bopper team. The gimmick was
crap, but they schooled everyone in the form of awesome tag team wrestling. So much so, that the AWA wanted to test these guys in singles style. So, simple enough, Kyle killed JVD dead with a chair, and then proceeding to spread some  pretty nasty rumors about good ole' JVD. That was enough to spark a long term feud between the two, one which has been on and off, depending on what fed they are in. But tonight.. it's WAR TIME, baby!
The entrances are, of course, huge, and get
MASSIVE reactions from the CA crowd. And of course, JVD's got the bigger ovation. They do boxing style introductions, a nice touch on what's to come. Finally, bell rings, and the two lockup and head for the corner, but they break clean. You never see that now-a-days. Kyle gets a single leg and grabs a waistlock, which JVD reverses and takes Winters down with. Kyle goes right to the hammerlock, but Jeff reaches under with a single leg to take Kyle down, but Kyle kicks JVD away. Damage gets an armdrag to the armbar. Wrings the arm, countered by Kyle to a headlock. JVD whips in Kyle to start the shoulderblock sequence, ending with an Van Damage hiptoss. He gets a dropkick and then another armdrag, going to the armbar. He legdrops the arm and then keys the lock. Winters rollls him back for a weak 2 count, but Jeff keeps the lock in and goes right back to it. He switches to an armbar, but Winters breaks it with a kneelift, and pounds away.
Kyle whips Jeff in, who springs off with the Running Snap Elbow, and gets the armdrag and the armbar again. Kyle pulls the hair and forces Van Damage to the corner to break, and then pounds away on JVD. Jeff Van Damage comes back with an
STINGING Knfe Edge and brings in the stiff-as-all-hell kicks! He whips Kyle in, who reverses. Van Damage ducks the lariat and nails the floating leg lariat for 2. JVD whips Kyle to the corner, but is dropped to the apron, and he whips the arm across the top rope. Outside, Jeff nails Kyle from behind and rolls him in. He throws Winters to the ring post, shoulder first. Damage goes to the armbar, but Winters rolls free, and gets to his feet. He goes for a lariat, that Jeff ducks, and goes behind, only to have Kyle reverse. He goes for a back suplex over the top, but Jeff flips and lands on the apron! He tries to shoulder thrust his way in, but Kyle blocks and knees him, and then Winters POWERBOMBS him to the floor!!! Geezus.. Winters follows out with a hotshot to the barrier, and Jeff looks dead. I'd be, too. Winters then rolls Jeff in so he
can PUNT his ribs. OUCH! He gets a vertical suplex for 2, a snap suplex for two, and then his signature Fall-Out Reverse DDT for two. Frustrated, he just pounds the hell out of JVD some more.
JVD fights back and whips Kyle to the corner. Kyle reverses and charges, but hits boot, so Jeff charges and eats a Tilt-A-Whirl Gut Buster (
EWW) for 2. Kyle snapmares into a body scissors chinlock, while Carl Rotten and Marie Arlington talk about the psychology of the move, cutting off the air AND making JVD's ribs hurt even more. THAT is why they were always better than Rogers, Thompson, and Stevens, the XWA's call guys at the time. Jeff gets out of it and whips Kyle in, who reverses and gets the kneelift. HUGE boot to the ribs again. Kyle stomps and covers for 2. He gets an abdominal stretch and then JVD hiptosses out. His whip is reversed, and Kyle goes to the kneelift again, only to see Jeff school boy him for 2. Kyle comes back with his High Angle Backdrop for 2. He moves to a seated reverse bearhug and gets the bodyscissors again. JVD breaks it fairly quickly and whips Kyle in. Winters ducks the clothesline but the cruel mistress that is irony bites him as Jeff gets the Fall-Out. 10 count spot, with both men up at 9. They trade rights and Kyle whips Jeff in. Van Damage ducks the clothesline and gets his flying clothesline and Jeff is building da momentum. Two lariats, a Tilt-A-Whirl Hurracanrana and a back body drop, followed by a super-high FLAT OUT FLAPJACK! 1...2...NO! Talk about elevation.
Kyle gets a kneelift to halt the momentum, but JVD flips out of Kyle's Backdrop attempt. He ducks under Kyle's clothesline and
NAILS Kyle with a Backdrop Suplex of his own! JVD sets up in the corner as Kyle gets up. Charges for the Mighty Foot, but Kyle ducks, sending JVD right into referee Nuno Santos! FORCE OF NATURE? No, Jeff falls behind, right into the BLUE THUNDER BOMB!! But there's NO REF!!! Kyle goes low and gets the FORCE OF NATURE! (Pumphandle to Sit Out Powerslam) NO REF...WAIT! New referee Derek Lee rushes in, and begins counting the pinfall! 1...2...2.999999999!!! The straps are down, and Winters wants the FROST BITE! (STF with Armbar) Jeff scrambles to the ropes, as Kyle switches up to a choke. Jeff awards Kyle's seguing technique by running to the corner and falling, letting Kyle's head SNAP off the turnbuckle! Jeff goes up top, and Kyle tries a Pop-Up Superplex, but JVD pushes him off. So, Kyle crotches him, and tries Plan B, a SUPERDUPERPLEX! But once they hit the mat, JVD wraps up with Kyle's legs into a small package! Referee counts for the pin.. wait, BOTH referees count! Both shoulders down?? ONE.. TWO.. THREE!!

Kyle's arm is raised by Lee, but Santos was semi-awake and saw that JVD won the match. JVD's hand is raised, but Lee slaps it down. Houston, we have a problem. Funny spot here, as Jeff Van Damage just about slaps the taste right out of Lee for bringing his hand down. Lee goes back to Winters, raises his hand, and Santos pulls HIS arm down. And Winters does an even funnier version of the "slap your face off" routine. Lee and Santos go back and forth arguing, as Jeff Van Damage and Winters retreat out of the way. The refs argue.. and we get a fight!! LEE SHOVES SANTOS! SANTOS SHOVES BACK!! LEE SWINGS.. SANTOS KNOCKS LEE OUT WITH A RIGHT HAND! WHAT A HOSS! TOO MUCH CAPS!! WE HAVE A DOUBLE PIN? Ah, a nice interlude. Anyway, the decision is that the match must continue, and we're still wrasslin'.

Kyle sneak attacks, and pounds the crap out of Van Damage. Winters nails a pair of
NASTY Overhead Belly to Bellies on JVD to smash him back up after the "interlude." Jeff's body just crumbles on each one, even with his eyes rolling back into his head. Now Kyle ties JVD up in the ropes and pounds away. He runs off the ropes, and SPEARS JVD twice, but the second knocks Jeff loose. Kyle tries again, but Jeff is free, and Kyle tumbles to the outside. Kyle gets to the apron so JVD SPEARS Kyle off the apron and into the barricade! Big pop. JVD goes up top...PLANCHA!!! Kyle took that like a man too.. Jeff landed right on his face! Kyle gets rolled back in and Jeff heads up top.. Sniper Perfect MISSILE DROPKICK! ONE...TWO...TWO POINT NINE NINE NINE NINE etc!!! Jeff Van Damage is up, and he looks pumped.. FORCE OF NATURE? No, Kyle falls behind, just like JVD did earlier. He swings, but the clothesline misses.. but Jeff nails the  JEFF-O-MATIC!! ONE.. TWO.. TWO.999999!!! Crowd TOTALLY bought that as the finish.
Jeff Van Damage sets up in the corner, and here comes the stomp.. stomp.. stomp.. MIGHTY FOOT? No, Kyle grabs the leg and spins him.. K-ROYALE? No! VAN DAMAGER? No, Kyle elbows Jeff into the ropes.. VAN DAMAGER from Kyle?? NO! Jeff elbows out.. JVD-ROYALE?? NO!! Kyle falls behind, and.. German Suplex! German Suplex! German- NO!! Jeff Van Damage with a Roll-up!!
1.. 2.. 2.999999!! Jeff rolls of, and tries the Running Shotgun (Running Roundhouse to the Face) but Kyle ducks.. K-ROYALE!! Jeff landed right on his head!! ONE.. TWO.. KICKOUT!!!! Good lord, what a sequence. Crowd thought that was totally the end, especially with how fast the exchange was. Kyle can't believe it, throwing a regular temper tantrum in the center of the ring, as Jeff tries to pull himself to his feet. He is really messed up after the K-ROYALE right on his head, and Kyle adds to the pain by KILLING him DEAD with a lariat! He turns, and argues with the referee, as Jeff crawls up into the corner. Kyle charges, but eats the 'O Neils. Kyle comes back for more, and Jeff with a swank Brisco Sunset, but Kyle rolls right throw, into the FROST BITE! Jeff manages to squirm away, and kick Kyle to the outside before the move gets in! Kyle curses at the camera, and grabs a chair while the ref checks on JVD. Kyle comes back inside, and scares the referee off. He readies the chair, but JVD ducks and the chair bounces off the top rope into Winters' face!!! Kyle dazes around, and turns.. right into the MIGHTY FOOT!! Both men falls.. but Jeff Van Damage kips up to his feet!! The crowd goes ballistic!! He's set up, he's ready, he's Hulking up.. Kyle's on his feet.. CRUCIAL CONFLICT '02!! ONE...... TWO....... THREE!!!
Winner: Jeff Van Damage (23:04)
AWESOME match! Jeff Van Damage and Kyle work so well together, probably due to them knowing each other for so damn long. This was 10 pounds of cool in a 5 pound bag, as these guys tore the house up. Lots of cool reversals, and EVERYTHING was fluid. They didn't mis one spot, or botch one move. Even the restholds made sense, thanks to good psychology and good announcing. These guys put on such an awesome show in the ring, it's a wonder why the XWA didn't put these two together in a long-term program. The home town crowd gives JVD a standing ovation after the match, and Kyle gets one too, before hobbling out.
