There are questions often asked that get no answer and last week we were asking some ourselves. We ran into this local QRPer with the big signal. "How come", we asked, "that after you worked that rare one a couple of weeks back that all the Sixes were straining to raise above the noise level, that you and a couple of others stayed right on the DX frequency to visit and discuss things. Didn't you realize you were QRMing the DX station?"
We got the immediate bristling. We had questioned one of the Mighty! "Look", he came right back with, an edge to his voice, "I have as much right to the frequency as anyone else. Besides, all my friends were there and we hung around to see how the others were doing and how the band held up. None of our transmissions were longer than maybe a minute, were they? And if you can't work DX through a bit of QRM, maybe you better start taking a look at the gear you are using."
We were getting the feeling that we were still asking the questions but not hearing the answers. "Was it because there were a lot on frequency who might need to know you worked the DX station?", we asked and got a short nod. "Maybe so", the QRPer said, "but we were just visiting around and keeping an eye on things. Nothing wrong with that." Son of a Gun, what does one say when everything has already been said. Only that the desire to be admired for ones cleverness is often with us and where else can one find a crowd but on a DX station's frequency?
