THE CITZENS BAND
INVITE
Hailing from a fantastic neverland that lies somewhere between a carnival side show and Weimar Berlin, The Citizens Band is a raucous, sexy, collaborative cabaret troupe.
Offering a unique blend of elegant acrobatics and melodious song, The Citizens Band’s primary goal is to entertain, but always with a sharp jab of the elbow to remind their audience of the state of the world and their place in it. Their style is influenced by early Weimar Republic cabaret and Vaudeville, where the fun and bawdy was mixed with awareness of socio-political and economic issues.
New York is filled with creative artists that work in diverse fields — fashion, music, art, theatre, film or dance — yet at times the city can feel tribal, with each group circling each other but never blending. One of the goals of The Citizens Band is to promote collaboration, encouraging artists to indulge in their talents and share creative fantasies to construct a multi-faceted jewel box of entertainment. Combining the exuberance of collaboration with an unadulterated love for what they do, The Citizens Band believes that this effervescent combination spills off the stage and offers the audience equal parts inspiration and pleasure.
The Citizens Band believes that great art flourishes in times of political confusion and war. A social conscience is at the core of their being. The Citizens Band likes to remind us — with song, dance and dazzling performance — that we’re all citizens of the same world.
