*An estimated minimum 3-4 million children witness domestic violence each year.

*Many children are inadvertently injuried by their fathers during episodes of family violence. These youngest children sustain the most serious injuries.

*Long-term effects of family violence on children include: low self-esteem, sadness, depression, stress disorders, poor impulse control, feelings of powerlessness, isolation, loneliness.

*50% of homeless children and women are fleeing from abusive homes.

*More than one-half of parents searching for their child, abducted by the other parent, have reported a history of domestic violence and are the custodial parent.

*One-third to one-half of all men who abuse their female partners also abuse their children.

*Children of abused mothers are 6 times more likely to attempt suicide, 50% more likely to abuse drugs and/or alcohol, and are at higher risk for running away.

*In a study published in 1992, 63% of imprisoned children between the ages 11-20 were doing time for killing their mother's batterer.

*Children raised in violent homes are 74% more likely to commit assault.

*In a 36 month study of 146 children aged 11-17 from homes where family violence was a major factor, all sons over age 14 attempted to protect their mothers and 62% of them were injured in the process.
