US 163, 400, 412, and 425: Famous U.S. Route Oddities |
|||
U.S. 163 runs from Bluff, UT to Kayenta, AZ. Another route with the same designation ran from Des Moines to Oskaloosa, IA during the 1930s. Its supposed parent, U.S. 63, doesn't enter Utah or Arizona. U.S. 400 is perhaps the most unique route designation ever created, because there has never been a U.S. 0. It runs from Joplin, MO to Granada, CO. U.S. 412 never intersects with its parent route, U.S. 12. It runs from Columbia, TN to Springer, NM. It incorporates two toll roads in Oklahoma: the Cimarron Turnpike and the Cherokee Turnpike. U.S. 425 never intersects with its parent route, U.S. 25. It runs from Pine Bluff, AR to Natchez, MS (having recently been extended from its original southern terminus in Bastrop, LA). Some roadgeeks have suggested that this road be redesignated U.S. 265, as it links U.S. 65 to U.S. 165. |
