~Rilla of Ingleside~
This is the last "Anne" book in the series but is really more about Anne and Gilbert's youngest daughter, Rilla (Marilla). Anne and Gilbert are in the book some, but this novel is about Rilla's process of changing from a young self centered girl of 14 that's only worries were boys and dances, to a strong beautiful woman. L.M. Montgomery set this book during the First World War and is full of homefront life and the sadness of brothers and sons leaving to fight. There are sad moments, humorous moments, touching moments, and beautiful passages. This Anne novel really stands by itself and one you could read even before the others (but I would suggest reading them all!!! ~smile~).  The only bad thing about this book is that it is the last one of the Anne books (unless you count The Road to Yesterday). I actually cried the first time I read  the ending because it was the last book!! A great novel and different from the other Anne books, because of the loss in the war.
