I will always remember the smell of this chili when I went to visit my grandmother. This is a very large recipe to make bricks of chili. I usually cut the recipe in half.
14 lbs. hamburger
4 large onions
1 handful salt
2 large cans tomatos or sauce
2/3 cup chili powder
6-10 dried hot chilis'
2 heaping tsp. cumin
4-5 handfuls of oats
1 tbs. garlic powder
Brown hamburger and do not drain.
Cook onions until tender.
Add everything else except oats. Cook on simmer for 45 min.
Add oats and cook for additional 15 min.
Pour chili in oblong disposable aluminum pans- refrigerate overnight, then wrap for freezing.
Variations to this recipe by different family memebers are as follows:
May add 2 pkgs. chorizo for additional flavoring.
Can use 4 hot links in place of dried hot chilis.
