Develop a Photographic Memory at the Movies

Did you know that your brain can store more information than a ten gigabyte hard drive? Actually, the human brain has limitless capacities and infinite abilities. The only distinct advantage of the computer is its ability to store and process information orderly and systematically. Our brain, on the other hand, is susceptible to memory lapse and forgetfulness because we don’t process the information properly. As a result, we often forget facts, faces, telephone numbers,  and even things we are supposed to do and even when we just encountered them very recently.

Memory lapse and forgetfulness is easy to cure.  But hey!!! Why stop there when you can develop a photographic just by watching  tv.

GET A SCREEN NAME and BE A PRODUCT ENDORSER

If you want to develop and improve your memory, you have to know how it works.

And do you know who are the people who understand our memory  and how it works? They are the people in media, in showbiz.

For example,  a lot of stars use screen names. Not that they are ashamed of their real names but because they, especially the new wannabies,  want their names to be easily  remembered and always remembered.

Another example would be those advertisement and tv commercials. Have you ever wondered why established companies with established products like Coca Cola continue to spend so much on making creative advertisements and jingles. Or why  these companies create tag lines like “Just do it”.  Or why do they have to hire famous personalities to endorse their products.

The answer  is RECALL.  Good commercial jingles and even tag lines, just like screen names,  are easy to remember and hard to forget.  They want their brand names to stay in our minds.

HOW DOES MEDIA MAKE IT EASIER FOR US TO REMEMBER THEM?

Mass media makes it easy for us to remember actors and products. Now we will use media tricks and techniques  so we can memorize and recall  everything we want,  not just screen and brand names.

If we look at screen names and advertising campaign, we see that media uses  an existing pillar which is already popular to make their new campaign as popular. And they do that by ASSOCIATING.

EINSTEIN IN THE MOVIES

When we study about Albert Einstein, we learn that he formulated the Theory of Relativity.  To be able to  answer your exam questions, we have to read  “Albert Einstein formulate the Theory of Relativity” and say it over and over again. It may help you with your exam but  you might eventually forget it ten years from now when your child starts asking you “Who  formulated the theory of relativity?".

Here are TWO easy steps to develop a photographic memory:

1. ESTABLISH A WEIRD ASSOCIATION

There are two components to a the fact. Albert Einstein is one. While the other component is that he formulated the Theory of Relativity. Without one component, the other part seems useless. To be able to remember this two components, you must add a third force.

You can make a weird association and use it as your third force. For example, a man with stains all over his body except his eyes (All But Eyes Stain which sounds like Albert Einstein ).  Associate it with the theory of relativity by creating a picture of this man with all his relatives (theory of relativity).  Imagine a whole family with stains all over their body, except their eyes of course.

It seems weird and funny but it wll come in handy when you need to remember who formulated the theory of relativity.

2. PERSONALIZE THE ASSOCIATION

To strengthen the association you made earlier, you can relate it to YOURSELF.

If you have a friend, relative or even a famous person you know well  who is named Albert,  you can picture him and his family with stains all over his body except his eyes.  This way, even if you don’t review or study about Albert Einstein, you subliminally review whenever you see  your friend Albert.

OOOPPPSSSS!!! SHOW’ S  NOT  YET OVER

Another important lesson we should learn from watching movies is to learn to be OBSERVANT.  If you noticed, every scene of a movie is significant to the story. Sometimes we feel that a particular scene is useless. In the end, however, it turns out to be a significant piece of the puzzle/story.

Same is true in real life.  We must be observant.  Let us not take trivial things for granted. We’ll never know when it will come in handy.
