Lindsborg, Kansas' Growing-Out Tree
Station
The PURPOSE of this program to to promote public awareness and the spirit of volunteerism in support of tree planting, maintenance, management, protection, and clutivation in rural and urban communites, and along transportation corridors. The "Share the Shade" project is a joint venture of the City of Lindsborg, Kansas, The Kansas Urban Forestry Council (KUFC) and the National Tree Trust. KUFC provides the technical expertise and coordination, the City of Lindsborg provides the care of the young trees at the Lindsborg Reginal Tree Growing-out Station. The trees are provided by the National Tree Trust. Information and criteria 1. Join the Kansas Urban Forestry Council. Help KUFC forest Kansas cities and towns. Gain the most up-to-date information on trees and assistance with your planting projects. Dues are just $15 for an individual membership, $50 for Municipal or group membership and $500 for lifetime membership. Any non-profit group is eligible and donations are also accepted. 2. Submit a qualified project your project must:
B. Have written approval from the appropriate governing body of the proposed planting site. C. Select tree species found on the current Lindsborg Regional Tree Growing-out Station List. 3. Complete and Submit Application Applications are attached and will be accepted anytime during the year. Address your application to: Kansas Urban Forestry Council, P.O. Box 448, Lindsborg, KS 67456-0448. 4. Attend a Tree-Care Workshop (Sponsored by KUFC). Workshops will typically be about 1/2 day long. Several workshops will be scheduled in Lindsborg, Kansas to coincide with fall tree distribution. See insert or call KUFC for this year's scheduled workshops/pickup dates. 5. Pickup Arrangements All trees must be picked up at the Lindsborg Regional Tree Growing-out Station. No trees will be delivered. Trees will be avilable in the fall at the center. 6. Required Three Year Maintenance Program Tree maintenance for a period of 3 years is the responsibility of the contacting group. Minimum Care and Maintenance A. Periodically checking the condition of the trees.
7. Annual Progress Report Provide to the Kansas urban Forestry Council a comprehensive report, due September 1 each year, regarding the progress of trees during the 3-year maintenance period. Include photographs, newspaper articles, etc.
