Kansas Urban Forestry Council (KUFC) - a not-for-profit organization dedicated to planting and maintaining trees in cities and towns. In partnership with the Kansas Forest Service (KFS), the National Tree Trust (NTT) and the City of Lindsborg.

SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC GROUNDS, GARDEN CITY, KS

Alan, a friend and worker for the Urban Forests in Kansas is the winner of the first Paul C. Cole, Share the Shade award presented by the KUFC at TREE CITY USA DAY. A Kansas native, born in Garden City, he graduated from Brunnerdale Seminary High School in Canton, Ohio. Paul graduated in 1071 from Fort Hays State College with a Botany degree, realizing the importance of trees. In August of 1973, he organized and was a charter member of the Garden City Tree Board. In 1988, he became the Grounds Foreman for the Park and Zoo Department, and Liaison to the Tree Board.
   In February 1991 he organized the Southwest Chapter of the Kansas Urban Forestry Council serving as secretary until 1993. In 1993, he became chairman of the council and served until January of 1995. Alan served on the KUFC Board from 1992 to 1997.

       THE PARSONS ARBORETUEM
  AND THE PARSONS TREE BOARD
  The Tree Board, established in 1987 by the City Commission of Parsons and in 1989 Parsons received their first designation as a Tree City USA. In 1991 the Union Pacific Railroad deeded approximately 19 acres to the City. The dreams of the Tre Board were realized when in 1993 the Parsons Arboretum Foundation, Inc. was established. The foundation cooperates with the Parsons Tree Board and the City of Parsons to develop and run the Parsons Arboretum and visitors center.
