MEET THAD Site Supervisor, Tree Station, City Thad comes to the city from Bethany College were he was their groundskeeper for 15 years. He and his wife have made a decision to stay in Kansas and live in a smaller town. We welcome him to the Station! AND, we thank the CITY OF LINDSBORG CITIZENS AND GOVERNMENT for their commitment! Without that commitment, we could not enjoy the trees from the Station!
Our thanks go to the City of Lindsborg and its leadership! The city has voted and by spring will have built an office at the Tree Growing-Out Station! It will enhance the Station by allowing for a restroom and a warm place to sit! The office will "belong" to Thad! |

NATIONAL TREE The National Tree Trust launched a new educational pilot entitled the "Golden
Apple Tree Program." The program is being piloted in Arkansas, California,
Indiana, and Kentucky for the 1999 - 2000 school year. The impetus of this program is to
target middle and high school students to facilitate com- munity based projects and
mentoring opportunities with younger students. If the pilots appear to be successful
during the school year, NTT will initiate a second round of pilots for 2000 - 2001.
Organizations selected to participate will receive up to $2,000 and a wide variety of
supporting educational materials. One of the goals of the program is to incorporate other
educational elements from NTT's educational program, such as "Growing Together",
"Trail of Trees", and the "Treeture Partnership."
