The
War-Dog Memorials |
|
The
War-Dog Memorial (pictured above) was erected at the Air
Museum, March AFB, Riverside, California, near the Riverside National
Cemetery, the Nation's second largest military cemetery. It was dedicated
on Presidents Day, March 21, 2000.
A 2nd War-Dog Memorial, an exact copy of the one shown, was erected on 'Sacrifice Field' at Fort Benning, Georgia. It was dedicated in October, 2000. They
bear the inscription:
|
They protected
us on the field of battle.
They watch over our eternal rest. We are grateful. |
|
A 3rd War-Dog Memorial was dedicated in Port Neches, Texas, (a small city on the Gulf Coast of Texas, north of Houston). |
Another memorial to these brave dogs is to be dedicated on the Sunday during the Memorial Day 2001 weekend outside of Chicago. |
The
sculpture at Riverside is to be surrounded by tiles, (sample to right)
The museum is taking orders for those who want to purchase these inscribed
tiles that are to be placed on the concrete surface next to the sculpture.

The US Navy K-9 site supports, but is not connected in any way with either the Museum, The War-Dog Memorial, or this offer for tiles. This data is included for information and convenience only. |
Our site is however attempting to create a 'cyber' version of the Memorial. And 'cyber' tiles can be requested. (Please do not confuse this with or withold your support for the real world original.) Tiles can be requested by contacting usnavyk9@swbell.net. Like the real world version, please restrict what you would like the tile to say to 2 lines, 20 characters per line, all uppercase, Unlike the real world version, any characters found on a standard key board may be used, Requests for 'cyber' tiles is open to former handlers, those associated with War-Dog Units, and supporters, and friends of War-Dogs in general. |
