Out of eveyone that appeared in "Last House on the Left", the only actor to make his mark was David Hess, who will be forever remembered as the evil Krug Stillo in Wes Craven's landmark debut. Hess did an excellent job at portraying Krug - and has given many horror fans bad dreams, particulary because Krug Stillo is a very realistic character. Unlike Craven's Freddy Krueger or Cunningham's Jason Vorhees, Stillo holds an unspeakable menace that illuminates the screen.
He is most famous for his role in "Last House", but Hess went on to star as deranged Alex, in the equally disturbing "House on the Edge of the Park". That film is a little similar to "Last House" in more ways than one - but it helped to spread Hess' abilities as a celluloid villian. "House on the Edge of the Park" is also banned in Britain.
Hess' work with horror director Wes Craven wasn't finished with "Last House on the Left". Wes brought David on board for the unreleased horror anthology "Tales That Will Tear Your Heart Out", as well as popular comic book adaption "Swamp Thing". Though, his work on Craven's first film is the most memorable. Aside from his performance as Krug Stillo, Hess performed the soundtrack in collaboration with Steve Chapin. The released score has been a popular piece of memorabilia among fans.
He was born David Alexander Hess, in New York in 1942. After he made "Last House on the Left", David went to live in Europe to run a record label, but later returned to acting in 1974. Following on from a decade of living and working in Europe, he returned to his own country. Currently, Hess resides in sunny California with his loving wife and three children. He continues to work within music and cinema to this day. See David Hess.Com for more info.
