Scene 9 Continued...

While Weasel gets over his nightmare upstairs, Doc Collingwood goes down to the basement, in search of weapons. He finds a rifle, and quickly looks for some shells. Upstairs, Weasel has got changed, and he notices that the Collingwood room is empty. He then sees Mrs Collingwood in the living room, and he strolls in. He wishes to know where the good doctor is, but she passes his questions, and then she begins coming onto him. Weasel, of course, is more than happy about this, and gestures for the sofa. Estelle stops him, and we suddenly get a shot of the sofa, where they have placed Mari's dead body. She convinces him to go outside with her.

As the two go for a stroll outside, near the pond, what is heard here is pure sleaze talk, and could have come straight from any erotic picture. Mrs Collingwood herself, says that she has "always dreamt of a man who could take me easily". The aroused Weasel even states that he could "do her with his hands tied behind his back". Meanwhile, the Doc is busy setting up booby traps around the house. He sets up a trip-wire, locks the windows shut, and even creates an electrical trap at the front door, by pouring water over a cut wire, and covering it with a mat. Then, he smears cream on the floor outside the room where Krug and Sadie are sleeping. Next, he quietly enters the room, and takes Weasel's gun. For a brief moment, Krug wakes up, but he soon falls back to sleep, and isn't aware of Mr Collingwood's actions.
It is worth mentioning that Wes Craven has a major interest in booby traps. This same device of terror, was also used in his second film, The Hills Have Eyes, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Shocker and The People Under the Stairs, which took place in a booby-trapped home.
We cut back to Mrs Collingwood, as she seduces Weasel. After his promise of hands-free sex, she ties up his hands with his tie, and undoes his flies. She begins to perform fellatio on the aroused Weasel, and she suddenly yanks back and grinds down! As she bites off his member, Weasel screams in sheer horror, and he falls to the floor in agony. This scene has often been popular with audiences, and points towards the film's origins as a sexploitation picture. It is anything but subtle, and it is another one of the movie's harsh and ugly displays.
For the scene, the crew strapped an extra belt to Fred Lincoln, who portrayed Weasel. A part of the belt stuck out through his trousers (simulating his penis!), and the actress merely yanked back on that. The crew have rather vivid memories of shooting that scene, and every man on the set cringed! Cynthia Carr, who played Mrs Collingwood, was particulary worried about doing this scene, but after talking to Sean Cunningham, she was able to perform well (no pun intended).

Scene 10: Parental Retribution

After hearing Weasel's screams of pain, Krug and Sadie awake to find the Doctor standing over them with his rifle. Quickly reaching for the light switch, Krug bathes the room in darkness, and Doc Collingwood fires off one shot, which has supposedly missed. We can hear Krug and Sadie scrambling around, and Krug emerges into the corridor and slips on the cream. Unable to stop himself, he slides into the trip-wire, and smashes into the living room, where Doc Collingwood stands stone faced. Krug wants to know what has happened to Weasel, but the Doctor answers him with a blow to the head. What happens next is a violent bout of bare-knuckle fighting, where Krug slowly starts to beat the poor man to a bloody pulp. After Krug notices Mari on the sofa, Collingwood becomes incredibly angry, but is unable to fend off the diabolical Krug. Just as the fiend is about to strangle him to death, a gunshot rings through the air. Turning round, Krug faces his son Junior, who has pulled a gun on his father. Junior's conscience has well and truly reached boiling point, and he threatens to kill Krug. What happens next, is one of the most cold-hearted acts committed to film. Krug turns the tables on his son, and orders him to commit suicide. Weak from withdrawal symptoms, and helpless under his fathers taunts, Junior blows his brains out all over the Collingwood wall. In the original shooting script for the film, Junior was supposed to be alive at the movie's conclusion. There was also an alternative ending, in which Junior shot Krug with the pistol. Junior's death was originally a lot gorier than what appeared on screen. Special blood had been made, which was splashed over the wall. Also, fake bits of brain was also provided. These, more graphic shots, never made it into the completed version.
Unfazed by his son's death, Krug suddenly realises that Doc Collingwood has gone. Krug hears a noise, and takes a look down the stairs towards the basement. The good doctor emerges - wielding a fully functional chainsaw! Krug tries to escape the house, but the terrified Sadie refuses to help, pulling a knife on him. He then tries to get out through the front door, but receives an electric shock in the final boody trap. He is trapped in the house, as the Doctor launches his assault upon Krug. The criminal uses anything he can to try and stop the chainsaw hitting him, by shielding himself with furniture and throwing objects into the saw's path - which all disintergrate under the power of the machine! Meanwhile, Sadie has found her way outside, and she comes face to face with Mrs Collingwood, and the two fight each other on the lawn, as the sound of the chainsaw raws inside. Sadie runs off, when she accidentily falls into the family swimming pool. Mrs Collingwood picks up the knife dropped by Sadie, and goes after her. At the same time, the Doctor has cornered Krug...
