Scene 10 continued...

As the Doc advances on Krug, the Sheriff bounds into the room, and is horrified to see him cut into the criminal with the saw. Outside, Mrs Collingwood simultaneously slashes Sadie's throat as she tries to escape the pool. Blood has splashed over the Sheriff's face, and the crumpled form of Krug lies on the floor, while Sadie lies bleeding in the water. The film draws to a close, as Mrs Collingwood joins her husband, blood covering them both. The Sheriff and Deputy look on in horror, as the Collingwood's appear to be horrified by their own actions. The action-packed conclusion to the film holds the most vivid memory of the shoot for the crew, particulary David Hess, who had to avoid being hit by a real chainsaw. For the death of Sadie, a blood bag was placed under her shirt, which simulated the knife attack by Mrs Collingwood. The whole finale of Last House on the Left is handled with brilliance by Craven, and some see it as the highlight of the picture.
Final Analysis

It clearly depicts the evil that is abundant in all men and women, and the acts of evil that can be thrown upon others. At the very end of the film, the pleasant Collingwood family go from being good Samaritan's to cold-blooded murderers. They become just as bad as Krug and his cohorts. Under the influence of tragedy, revenge often seems the easiest choice, and Craven projects this message with uneasy accuracy. Anyone can be brought down to a violent, and primal level. It is this theme that marks Last House above other mainstream titles, and remains a visually powerful motion picture...
