FLAWLESS SABRINA by GAZELLE
Flawless Sabrina is a living legend in our New York scene. In 1968 she was the subject of the documentary "THE QUEEN," the movie was shown at the Cannes Festival and gave Sabrina a world wide recognition. The documentary records the preparations for a drag queen pageant, and of course the event that took place at the New York City's Town Hall. It is raw, shocking and extremely entertaining. Flawless Sabrina, World's Most Masterful Mistress of Ceremonies also known as Jack Doroshow is a pioneer, her bravery and vision deserves never to be forgotten and should always be celebrated by the young and old generations.  In a time where homosexuality was a forbidden subject, Jack Doroshow went beyond the stigma and organized gay pageants, being the first one Miss Philadelphia(1959) and the last one Miss Fire Island(1967) which is still a big happening in the island. It is important to remember that the Stonewall Riots only happened 10 years later(1969).
Today Flawless Sabrina is as busy as always, her presence is requested at the great events around the city, where she brings her sophisticated eccentricity and always lights the party wherever she goes. Last Thursday (Nov 10th), she presented us with "Flawless from the sinkhole of corruption at the toilet in the lobby of the Chelsea Hotel," a one hour monologue about Sabrina's observations of the present. It was fascinating seeing her on stage, even if it was just for one night, she does it her way and when it pleases her. She is no longer a diva, she is a legend!
Jack Doroshow told me that one should never stop living without visiting India once, " it opens your vision of life ." His opinions and ideas are welcome among so many people that circulate in his Upper East Side apartment, where so many objets d'art cover the walls combined with wigs and hats. In his living room Jack entertains all the talented "kids" in the city that are looking for some guidance or just wanting to be around him. I am one of them! I asked clothing designer Andres Throckmorton(DRES) who was inspired by Flawless Sabrina to do his 2004 Fall collection why he chose her, and his answer was that only Flawless could give him that spectacular image that was beyond classic Drag.
Her sense of community is perhaps one of the qualities I most admire on Sabrina, she understands how important and necessary unity is. When I asked her what she would have done differently her answer was that she "would have not wasted so much time in being bitter sometimes, life is about changing, we only live once! ". I love her and what she stands for!
