JIM WARBOY - BIO
Warboy writes, records, and produces music.
He arrived in London in the early 80’s with a bag full of make-up, false hair, wigs, and fabrics. He worked down the King’s Road, Kensington Market, and Hyper Hyper.
Realising he came alive at night, he gave up the day job and went on to work at Camden Palace
and then the Hippodrome.
By the late 80’s he started work for Capital Gay, a weekly gay newspaper, where he became Production Manager. He was involved in
90’s queer politics and Aids activism. This was a time when he put more energy into making political waves rather than blo waves.
In the late 90’s he went to college to study sound engineering and production. He then set up his own studio to start producing music.
In 2004 he teamed up with Matthew Glamorre to run Kash Point as the monthly dress-up club for the new freaks. It was an instant success and established it’s unforgiving reputation by turning many people away – if they were not dressed up. Coupling Warboy’s production skills with Glamorre’s showmanship, has guaranteed the most exciting nights in London for a long time – Kash Point and Alternative Miss
World 2004.
Following a chance meeting with Yr Mum Ya Dad, he wrote and produced a number of tracks, including club favourite ‘Catwalking’ and also one with Princess Julia. This helped launch them onto the London scene where they soon became established as London’s new alternative darlings and acted as a key focal point for the emerging generation of freaks. He later went on to become resident DJ at YMYD’s monthly
freak club Anti-Social.
Amongst others, he is also currently working with: ragga wrecker Lippy Lou, who previously signed to Boy George’s label More Protein; and Misty Woods, formerly in the JuJu Babies; and Jason Atomic and Ruta.
He remixes dancefloor electro tracks as Barebacker and is currently working on Superstüdio, Duke, Sma5hTV, and Gene Serene mixes.
