In
1972, she became well known in the public eye during her demonstrations
over her support for legal abortions. The same year McCall’s
magazine named her Woman of the Year for her many accomplishments
including the founding of Ms. Magazine, the National Women’s
Political Caucus, and the Coalition of Labor Union Women. In Autumn, 1993,
she was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls,
New York, the place where the first women’s movement is remembered.
