In 1891 Marya travelled to Paris to further her
education. There she met Pierre and they were married in the summer of
1895; Marya adopted his surname and changed her first name to the French
equivalent – Marie. In
1987 Marie began her doctorate in physics, and by 1903 she had finished
it. Marie was finding it hard
to survive as the French were not taking a like to a ‘Polish woman’ equalling
their top scientists.
