Born: 29th January 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi.
Family: Oprah was born to Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey. They were unmarried teenagers who lived in poverty.
Education: Oprah’s deeply religious grandmother educated her. She could read at a young age. She also attended a number of schools.

When Oprah was 19 she worked part-time for radio station WVOL, Nashville.
She dropped out of university to become a newsreader at Nashville's WTVF-TV.
In 1976, she moved to WJZ-TV and after a stint as a reporter and was promoted to co-anchor.
She hosted the show People Are Talking.
Oprah is currently the host of an international show called The Oprah Winfrey Show; she is now the wealthiest black woman in the US.
