You At Sixteen (for Christopher Faller on his 16th birthday)

Sometimes, I can't help wonder,
Just what you might have been,
If you didn't have to leave us,
If I could see you at sixteen.

You loved to play with legos,
From the time that you were small...
Would you want to be a builder,
With skyscrapers, oh so tall?

You dreamed of super heroes,
They always saved the day.
You could be a real life hero,
Change the world in your own way.

Would you want to be a soldier,
Like when you were a kid?
I would be so proud of you,
And so worried if you did.

Your heart was always loving,
Did you want to be a dad?
Of course you are too young now,
Later on, wouldn't be bad.

Then, you also loved to pray,
Maybe you'd work for the Lord.
The comfort you'd bring others,
Could be it's own reward.

But, those plans don't matter now,
These results won't be seen.
Because you went to Heaven,
You won't get to be sixteen.

I miss you each and every day,
Birthdays now are only dreams.
This birthday, I am dreaming,
That I could see you at sixteen.

Star Light ~ Star Bright

Star light, star bright,
An angel shines in heaven tonight.
The angels are singing and dancing with joy,
It's Christopher's birthday, my little boy.

Will you have a cake and presents too?
Will Jesus be there to congratulate you?
Will you ride on a chariot across the night sky?
Will you send me a shooting star as you go by?

I can't believe you'd be sixteen today,
Has is been that long since you went away?
I miss you my child, more than you know,
It's been eight years since I held you, where did time go?

Sixteen years ago today, I gave birth to a precious baby boy,
Our bright, smiling, son, a bundle of joy.
Christopher, your light still shines,
On all the lives you touched, especially mine.

I'll always love you my precious child,
Although we must be apart for awhile.
I'm sending you kisses and all of my love,
Happy Birthday sweet Christopher in heaven above.

My Son Lives in Paradise

The dust has settled on the things
That I have stored away
A favorite toy, for little boy
A jar of dried out clay.

A photograph when you were young
Sits quietly on the shelf
Thoughts of you come drifting back
I just can’t help myself.

A drawing that you made for me
When you were very small
Is framed within this heart of mine
And hangs upon the wall.

A scrapbook lies within the room
Where you once laid your head
Your favorite book, a model car
The pillow on your bed.

I miss you coming in from school
“Hey mom, it’s me, I’m home”
I miss the little words and hugs
The special times we’ve known.

A part of me just disappeared
The day you went away
An empty space now fills my heart
There are no words to say.

A closet filled with memories
Of happy days gone by
A baseball cap and souvenir
Why did you have to die?

The trophies that you won at school
Stand proudly on display
Your many friends can’t understand
Why God called you away.

I hear your voice within the halls
It echoes in the night
I see you in the evening mist
And in the morning light.

So many things you left behind
Are now a memory
But little arms that held me tight
Will always stay with me.

An empty space now fills my heart
My boy, my child, my son
You’ve gone into another world
Where golden dreams are spun.

I do not know the answers
It‘s not for me to know
But I will know the truth one day
Just why you had to go.

My turn will come to leave this world
I’ll gaze into your eyes
God’s perfect plan will be revealed
Up there in paradise.

Forever Seven

You came to us such a little guy,
Just a little over 6 pounds or so,
And even though you were terribly sick,
Somehow you began to grow.

Your birthdays were such a celebration,
Everything seemed to go by so fast.
What was your future back then
Sadly now has become your past.

I love you, Christopher, with all my heart.
You really are the best!
But all our dreams and plans that we had
Have now been put to rest.

Today is the day you were born,
But my heart is broken in two.
There is nothing I would rather do
Than spend today with you.

But you will spend this birthday
And all the ones to come
In heaven with all of your angel friends,
For that is now your home.

And though I miss you with every breath,
There is nothing that I can do.
I have to stay and live this sad life,
Until I am called there, too.

In my heart you will remain
Until I am reunited with you in heaven.
In my heart and in my mind
You will remain "Forever Seven."
