The
Colors We Learn
thinking good.
feeling, too.
balance the two.
find the pathway
out of confusion
into clarity
and bliss
for a time.
then the spiral dance
mutates.
lost again.
found new shades of blue.
darker blacks.
suddenly brilliant purples,
screaming reds,
fluorescent oranges
arrive
resolving into
Rembrandt browns.
then come the clowns.
zounds!
I got so used to being sad.
I got so used to being mad.
I forgot I could laugh so loud.
it made me cry
elephant tears.
the kittens dance
will lead me home
to allow my mind to travel
where this body cannot.
cyber friends come and go
talking of Michael and Angelo.
some poetry is long.
some is short.
to sing our song
and build our fort
against raging storms
within our minds.
so a little sweetness
is in the rinds
of pork and pomegranate.
teaching us the kinds
of lessons we must learn
to feel the fire
but not the burn.
