Meats
T. L. Lay, a son of Union County, Tennessee opened Lay’s Market in downtown Knoxville in 1907. By the 1920s a meat-packing operation was the jewel of the Lay family enterprise, distributing food products from sides of beef to wieners throughout the Southeast. Although the meat-packing side of the business was sold after 80 years, Lay’s Market, the original family business is still operated by members of the family.
