Research Interests : Zoology – Environmental Sciences – Toxicology – Water Chemistry – Microbiology – Ecophysiology – Pollution – Immunology – Environmental Biotechnology – Bioremediation.
Research Experience :
- Research Projects Completed.
- M.Sc., (Special Zoology)
During M.Sc., Project entitled ‘Ground Water Hydrology of a reclaimed coastal land at Chepauk, Madras’ was investigated.
- M.Phil. Degree
A project entitled ‘Antimicrobial properties of brominated phenols, 2,6 – dibromophenol and 2,4,6 tribromophenol and the extract of the Hemichordate Ptychodera flava’ was investigated. This study involved the culture of B Subtilis and P.pisi bacteria and assaying their susceptibility to the above compounds.
- Ph.D. Degree
During the Ph.D. research programme, I was engaged in the study on the ‘Biology of Madras Drinking Water Supply System and Health’. The results of the investigation were embodied in the form of a Ph.D. Thesis and submitted for the award of Doctoral degree to the University of Madras. This study involved the monitoring of water quality from the view point of physical, chemical, biological and microbiological characteristics. In addition, it was noted that chlorination for disinfection of drinking water resulted in the formation of trihalomethanes (THMs), the potential carcinogens and mutagens.
