Tragic Memories

Part One

"Yo Wu-man, pass me a cookie." Duo raised his eyebrows impatiently. Wufei grinded his teeth and held his temper. "First of all, don't call me that, my name is Wufei and you know it. Second of all, I am not your servant, get it yourself!" Wufei glared at Duo and went back to reading the newspaper. Duo instantly started to bug Heero. "Puh-leeeeeasse? C'mon Heero, all you have to do is reach out!" Heero rolled his eyes and passed Duo a cookie. Wufei exploded. "Heero! You're gonna let Duo get away with that? Come ooooon. He's like a dog or something, you give him something and that encourages him to do it the next time. Don't let him do that to you! And Duo, don't okay? You're driving everyone insane. Will you just stop it?" Wufei narrowed his eyes at Heero and muttered about injustice. Duo hastily got up, and put the cookie on the table. He ran to his room, a tear rolling off his cheek. But of course they didn't see it, he always hid it from them. "Wufei…be nice to him…maybe he's just lonely….wants some comfort or something. Don't be so hard on him. And yes, I'll make him get his own cookie next time, okay?" Heero sighed and Wufei stomped off angrily in the direction of the pool. Have I been too hard on him lately? I dunno but it seems like he's hiding something from me, keeping it inside. Guilt covered his heart as he walked towards his room, next to Duo's.

Duo lay on his bed, trying to be as quiet as he could, the tears splashing onto his pillow. They don't understand. It hurts. So sudden and tragic. It has just happened…and I don't know how to handle it. The pain…Duo grabbed his pillow and almost tore the case as his nails dug into it. The horrible nightmares…they always haunted him. He wanted them to go away, leaving him to sleep in peace. But no, they came every night, hovering in his mind, bringing screams from his throat in his dream. O gods, its all my fault. Grief and guilt weighed his heart down. He sobbed harder and threw two books he had been reading earlier to try and distract himself, at the wall. They hit it with a thump, one a second after the other. He wanted, needed a shoulder to cry on, someone to come in and comfort him, tell him everything was going to be ok. But no one came, and he was utterly alone. As the last of his tears slowed, he drifted to an uneasy sleep, filled with things that would make a grown man scream…

Heero had thought he had heard a thump, but wasn't exactly sure…but when he heard a second thump right after the other one, he knew it had come from Duo's room. He frowned with worry and put his ear to the door. Nothing but gentle snores, and an occasional grunt. He put his back to the door, and slowly slid down it. He put his head in his hands. Maybe I should be more nice to him. He seems to be under a lot of pressure for some reason. Shame weighed his heart down like an anchor in the sea. He dozed off, thinking about Duo, and why he wasn't telling Heero something.

Where was he? In his room? No, he didn't have a computer in his room. He looked at the area surrounding him and saw a man sitting at a computer, and white washed walls. He tried to get up quietly, only to find himself strapped to a white pallet. He croaked. "Heero?" The man slowly got up and walked over to Duo. "Awake are we? And already wanting to get out, hmm?" He chuckled, a little evilly. He picked something up from a little metal table beside the pallet. Something sharp…Duo thought. A needle? Oh dear gods no, if he was scared of anything it was needles. He shrunk into the bed, trying to get away. He lashed out with his legs, kicking the table. It toppled over, and the tools fell off the table. "Tsk, tsk, naughty boy!" He smiled. But soon the smile turned into a glare. "You don't actually think you're going to get away, do you? Fool." He brought the needle to Duo's stomach. Duo panicked and struggled violently. "What do you want? No, please, anything but the needle…pleeeaasssseee." The needle touching his stomach, slowly piercing the soft skin, cut off his cry. This strange man was doing it on purpose. Torturing Duo by pulling it out ever so slowly. Duo groaned. As the effects of the drug kicked in, he thought of someone he was with…who was it? He had to save someone….but he couldn't remember who….Then it came to him. Zechs? Relena?!? No….don't, gods, no, stop…stop…NO!!!!

Duo jerked forward, covered with beads of sweat, his eyes puffy, and his throat sore. A scream tore from his throat. But it stopped as soon as he realized he was in his own room. Home. Safe. Oh gods…

(1)"Duo? Duo?!? What's wrong? What's happening? Duo, answer me!" Heero kicked the door in and stared at the little curled up ball on the floor. Duo was crying so much there were little pools of fallen tears on the floor. Heero came to his senses, and threw himself on the floor. "Shhh, its okay Duo. Everything will be all right. I'm here now." He hugged the sobbing Duo and tried to soothe him. But the tears wouldn't stop. They kept on going and going. The sobs racked his body, making him shudder. All night he soaked Heero's shirt with unshed tears, until every last one was gone. Duo sniffled and looked up at Heero. "I am here, koi, I always will be. I love you, Duo. I love you so much." Heero only noticed that he too was crying when Duo wiped it off. "I love you too, Heero." Duo whispered. Heero suddenly embraced Duo in the tightest hug he had ever given him. Duo rested his chin on Heero's shoulder. "If only you understood." Heero frowned and pulled away a little. "Duo, what is it? What's been bothering you? Please tell me. Please, Duo." Heero stared into Duo's eyes, pleading to be told. Duo sighed and took Heero's hand. He pulled Heero over to the bed, and gestured for him to sit down on one of the pillows. Heero laid his back on the pillow and Duo did so on the opposite side.

He took a deep breath and everything came out of his mouth at once. "Me…me, Zechs, and Relena were being led to this dark little room with no windows at all, and chains hanging from the ceiling…I could tell it was a torture room. So they put me on the floor, after putting Zech's, and Relena's hands to the chains. They…they whipped them until you couldn't even recognize them!" Duo felt a prickle in his eyes and hastily rubbed the tears away. "The worst part is…they…they raped Relena to unconsciousness. And they made me watch every last bit. They forced my eyes open until they were sore!" Duo frowned for a moment and dug in his pocket. "I remember Relena gave me something…for you I think. My memory's a bit foggy since they drugged me." He produced a locket….Relena's locket. Since the locket had photographs in it of her and Zechs, she could have easily written on the back with a sharp stone. And she had. Heero read it, guilt and shame making him slump. He read: 'Heero, I'm sorry for bothering you, bugging you, I didn't mean to, it was just a phase I guess. But I'm not sorry for loving you. Even though you were mean to me I still loved you. And remember that. But then I realized. That you didn't love me in the same way. I took it in, and moved on. I still love you now, but as a friend. I shall miss you always. With the most of love, Relena Darlian.' Heero almost doubled over, as his body took in the message, the misery seeping deep down into the pit of his heart.

I'm so sorry, Relena. I didn't mean to, I didn't think I was hurting you. Forgive me. I was a fool. You were always so nice and sweet to me, but I couldn't accept that a girl was in love with me. You knew I was attracted more to boys than to girls. But still you said you loved me. I tried to take it in, but I couldn't, so I just ignored it, thinking it would go away. I was wrong, and im so deeply sorry for it. Oh gods…Relena…Zechs… A sob tore from Heero's throat as he leaned against Duo for support. It was Duo's turn to soothe Heero, tell him it was ok, that it wasn't his fault. Duo patted Heero's arm as a single tear fell into Heero's hair. I need to tell Quatre, Trowa, and Wufei tomorrow. That might be hard, but I still have to do it. Duo closed his eyes, wanting to doze off for five minutes..I'm so tired. Tired of feeling sorry for myself. Tired of the guilt. Tired of everything. Except for Heero. Just so tired…And with that they both fell into a needed sleep.

Heero woke up, to find himself on Duo's bed, his head on Duo's lap. He blinked, a little groggy. He got up as quietly as he could and creeped to the bathroom. He stripped off his clothing and stepped into the hot blast of the water. So refreshing…Heero thought. After drying off, he padded downstairs softly in a robe and slippers. He poured some hot coffee into a mug and made some toast. He walked slowly upstairs again, and set the tray with Duo's breakfast on the bedside table.

Duo opened his eyes sleepily, and looked around him. He stood up, getting a tiny headrush, and went to have a shower. By the time he got out of the shower, the butter on his toast had already melted into the soft white(2) bread. He bit into the toast and tasted heaven. "Mmmmmmm…" Duo chewed and smiled. Heero always did nice things for him. He finished his toast and coffee, and brought the tray downstairs and into the kitchen to be washed. He walked out of the kitchen, the dishes washed and dried. He saw Heero going up the creaking stairs and hastily picked up his pace. He grabbed Heero's arm. "Thank you for the wonderful breakfast, Hee-chan. Love you. And we need to tell the others about…you know." Heero nodded. "Your welcome, koi." Heero kissed the tip of Duo's nose affectionately. "Are you ok, koi? Do you want to talk about anything right now?" Heero's eyebrows raised with worry. Duo smiled at the amount of concern in Heero's voice. "No thanks, Hee-chan. I'm fine right now. I might want to talk later, but we'll see." Heero smiled, nodded, and pulled Duo to the living room. "We should tell them now, Shi-chan." Duo nodded and hesitated. But he finally got up the courage to talk to them. He knew they all thought that Zechs and Relena were on a vacation. Heero coughed politely to get the other Gundam pilot's attention. "Um…guys? Duo has something to talk to you about. And its important so could you turn off the T.V.?" Wufei clicked the power button on the remote. "Thanks Fei." Wufei arched an eyebrow in Duo's direction. "Whatcha wanna tell us, Duo?" Duo cleared his throat and spilled the beans. Every little detail. By the end of it, they were all looking a little green, except for Heero and himself, who had heard it before.

Quatre let out a strangled sob and ran for his room. Trowa followed, his eyes brimming with tears. Last of all, Wufei slowly got up from the couch. He tried to stay calm but the way he ran up the stairs betrayed him. Duo put his head down and sat down. He sighed and put his head in his hands. Heero patted him sympathetically. "I know how you feel." Something inside Duo snapped. "Do you? Do you really? Do you feel my pain, my guilt, my shame? Tell me Heero. I don't need your pity. You stupid stupid boy. You'll never know what I'm going through!" Before Duo know it his hand was stretched out behind his head. His hand hit Heero's cheek hard and fast. He gasped and ran to his room, his sanctuary.

Wufei lay on his bed, thinking. How could this happen? Zechs knew better then that. And Relena had a gun hidden in her 'pants.' But then again, if they had raped her, they must have found it. Oh Zechs. I miss you. You were such a great friend I wish I could cry in front of them…but that means dishonor. A tear slipped onto his pillow, leaving a mark. I'm sorry you had to go through all of that Zechs. Pffftt, what am I thinking? You probably can't hear me anyway. Wufei sighed unhappily.

Heero was dazed. He wasn't expecting that. He rubbed his red cheek. All the memories flooded back into his mind. They were supposed to be forgotten. But instead they were just put aside for years. Why are they coming back now? Please…..oh gods no! Aisha…I'm so sorry. His younger sister, Aisha, had been kidnapped by some Oz soldiers. The scene flashed in his head. "Heero! Help Heero! I'm scared! I don't wanna go away! Heero! Please, don't let them take me away! I love you Heero, Heeerrooo…"He hated those words, those were the words that made him feel more and more responsible for her death. If he had just shot the Oz soldier that was carrying her. But he knew Wing's shots were too big, and there was a big chance that he would hit Aisha. He grabbed a pillow on the couch and viciously tore it up, visualizing it as the Oz soldier. Then he ripped another, and another, until all the pillows were nothing but fluff.. He stumbled to the kitchen, holding his head. He banged his fists repeatedly on the cupboard. It broke open from the force. Heero glanced in the cupboard and saw a small glass container. He took it out. He knew what it was, and suddenly he had a craving for it. He unscrewed the tiny cap and took a small handful of pills. As he put the pills in his mouth and swallowed them without much trouble, he wasn't exactly aware of how many pills he had taken. He dropped the container on the floor and sat down with a thump. As the effects kicked in, he remembered Aisha's terrified face and started to weep.

Stupid Heero. He thinks he knows everything, knows how I feel. Well he doesn't, and never will! Duo thought. He sighed and frowned, trying to control his anger. Who does he think he is anyway? Pfffttt, like he can make me feel any better. He just made it worse, the damn fool. Duo balled up his fists, his nails digging into his palms. Although maybe I shouldn't have hit him. That was a bit too much. Should I go an apologize. I think I should. Duo got off his bed, unlocked his door, and thumped downstairs. All his anger evaporated as he saw Heero on the floor, weeping like a little child. Duo ran over o him and hugged him. "I'm sorry, koi, I got carried away. I'm sorry I hit you. I didn't mean to, honestly." He rubbed Heero's back. Heero promptly fell asleep on his arm. People fall asleep that fast? No, that cant be, that was like…a split second. Duo walked over to the other side. He noticed something white on their floor…he bent down to examine it. It was a half full bottle of pills…Duo panicked. "Heero? Heero, can you hear me?" No response, he must be unconscious! I didn't think he would find it. It was only meant for me! He read the label just in case. It was obviously the one he had bought. Prozac-Duo Maxwell-Pilot of Deathsycthe-Dr. Ling-Only meant for medical uses-Do not bring near children. Yep, the same one. Duo put an arm around Heero's neck, and one under his knees. He pulled. He carried Heero over to the phone and dialed 911. It rang ten times. No one answered. Duo cursed. "Damnit! I guess I'll just have to walk. Its only four blocks." He pushed open the door with his hand and ran and ran. He finally got there. He kicked open the door and put the unconscious Heero on one of the seats. "Excuse me, my boyfriend just took half a bottle of prozac, could you please direct me to the." Duo was cut off by the nurse. "Yes of course, right away sir, we'll take care of him, he just needs to go with the doctors now." Duo nodded frantically, holding Heero's limp hand, on the edge of hysteria.

Two hours later, Duo was still in the waiting room, eyes filled with tears, nails digging into the plastic coffee cup. He sipped the horrible hospital coffee with a shaking hand. He closed his eyes and whacked his forehead with his palm. "I forgot to call them!" He raced to the phone and dialed the home phone number. "C'mon. Don't tell me your all still in your rooms." He slammed his hand down on the desk, making the nurse jump. "Answer dammit!" Someone finally picked up the phone.

"Hello?" Quatre wondered why someone would call at this hour. A frown creased his eyebrow as he listened to a very frantic-sounding Duo. "Duo? What? You're at the hospital? I thought you and Heero were taking a walk! Wha…prozac? Too much?!? O gods, this is serious, yeah. Mhmmm. Ya Duo, I'll be there as soon as I get the others, so I'll be there in about 10 minutes, kay? Wait, wait, the cars still here, why did you walk? You seem to be forgetting a lot of things now you know. Be right there, bye Duo." He hung up and raced up the stairs, two at a time. "Wufei, Trowa, outta you rooms, and into the car, I'll explain on the way there!" Trowa walked out of the room with a puzzled look. He followed Quatre downstairs and started to put on his runners. "Wufei, c'mon, stop stalling." "I don't want you to see me like this." Wufei shouted from his room. Quatre rolled his eyes. "We don't care, Wufei, we've been doing exactly the same thing as you, you know. Its not like we're gonna laugh or anything." Quatre waited. "Fine." Wufei growled from the top of the stairs. His hair was frizzy, his eyes puffy, and he had tear marks on his face. Quatre patted Wufei, and slipped his feet into his flip-flops. Wufei did the same. They all walked quickly to the car and Quatre started the engine. Quatre told them about the overdose of Prozac, and how they didn't know if Heero was going to make it or not. They drove off, their tension growing larger by the minute.

Duo saw Qat, Fei, and Tro walk in. He hurried over to them before they started pelting the nurse with questions she had already been asked. "Guys. Over here." He said hoarsely. They followed him to the waiting room, sitting down on the uncomfortable seats. "Are you alright, Duo?" A tear slid off Duo's cheek as he stared at Trowa. "I'm fine." He turned away as another tear silently slipped from his eye. Trowa put a comforting arm around Duo's neck. Hours passed, but the nurse didn't even look in their direction. They all drifted into an apprehensive sleep…

"Excuse me, Mr. Maxwell? Heero Yuy will see you now." The kind nurse tapped Duo's shoulder lightly. Duo rubbed his eyes sleepily. "Oh. Thank you. Guys? They're allowing us to go see Heero now." The other three teens got up from their seats, Wufei stumbling a little from a head rush. They walked down the hallway, led by the nurse. They finally stopped at the end of the hall, and she pushed open the door. Duo gasped as he saw Heero. He's so thin. I can count his ribs! He was as pale as a ghost…Poor Heero…he must feel horrible. Duo could tell from Heero's sweating and shivering that the after affects of the Prozac hadn't worn out completely. He took his coat and draped it over the already-covered Heero. It was strange, Heero still had the after effects, but the Prozac wasn't doing anything too him. He didn't look happy. He had dark circles under his eyes, and his hollow cheekbones almost cut through the skin. "Hey guys." Heero's voice was a ghost of a whisper. Duo ran to his side and hugged him, making Heero wince a little. Duo noticed the wince and asked about it. "What hurts, Hee-chan?" Heero coughed. "My chest, my bones, my muscles, my head, my throat, even my goddamn eyes!" A burst of anger came from Heero and he banged his hand on the metal bit of the bed. "Shhhh. Heero, its ok to be angry." Duo tried to comfort Heero. Heero half closed his eyes. "I'm so tired but I can't sleep. Its so damn annoying." He fidgeted and his eyebrow twitched. He looked around the room….nervously. Can you close the door? I'm scared." He shivered more visibly and Duo closed the door quietly. The doctor came in and took Duo to the corner. "There will be some after-effects of the prozac, no doubt. We're giving him sleeping pills, so he can get some rest. Don't be too alarmed if he talks to something that isn't there, he's hallucinating. And he will most likely ask for your help, to take him to the bathroom, about every 15 minutes." The doctor paused and put an arm on Duo's tense shoulder. "Don't worry, Mr. Maxwell, he'll be fine, he just needs to stay here…oh, I'd say for another week or two." Duo thanked him and the doctor walked out, closing the door behind himself. A nurse came in with a cup of water and a small white pill. "Come on, Heero, eat it up now." She soothed, as if he was a five year old that didn't want to eat his vegetables. Heero swallowed the pill and drank some water. Duo took his hand and squeezed it. Heero smiled, and swayed a little, even though he was lying down. Duo steadied him. Heero closed his eyes and his head collapsed on the pillow, the sleeping pill kicking in.

7 hours later, Heero awoke, sweating and blinking rapidly. "Duo, can you take me to the bathroom?" Duo nodded and helped Heero out of the bed. Heero leaned on Duo's body for support. Duo couldn't help but notice the wet patch on the front of Heero's pants. He grabbed a pair of pants off the shelf and walked Heero to the tiny bathroom. As Duo closed the door, he heard a large whimper. He opened it quickly to find Heero sitting in the corner, shivering. "Please don't leave me alone. I don't like being alone." Duo's heart went out to him. "Ok, Heero, I'm here now." As Heero emptied his bladder of all kinds of hospital fluid, Duo washed his face. Duo heard the flush and handed Heero the dry pants. "Can you get these on yourself?" Heero shook his head. Duo sighed sympathetically and helped Heero take the wet ones off. He made Heero wash his hands and brought him back to his bed. Heero lay down and closed his eyes. "Thanks." Heero looked in Duo's direction. Duo smiled. "Don't thank me, koi."

20 minutes…..25 minutes…..27 minutes. Heero interrupted duo's counting the time since they had last went to the bathroom. "I need to go to the bathroom." So he did the whole thing over again. Taking yet another pair off wet pants and giving them to the nurse. Every 20 minutes he had to change Heero's pants, and bring him to the bathroom. Must be one of the effects…Duo thought. Trowa told Duo that he would help Heero to the bathroom next time. Duo nodded his thanks and put his head on the bed, and fell asleep, holding his sweaty hand to Heero's.

Gods, I didn't realize Duo was so tired, or else I would have let him sleep earlier. Trowa gave himself a mental kick as he helped Heero into fresh pants. Heero held on to Trowa's hand the whole time, like a child, not wanting to get lost. Finally, Heero fell asleep, not asking to go to the restroom. Trowa sighed. Poor Heero. Poor Duo…Trowa put his head on Quatre's shoulder. "How're you doing, Qat?" Trowa arched a tired eyebrow. Quatre smiled warmly at him. "I should be asking you that, koi. I'm fine, just a tiny bit tired, but I doubt I'm more exhausted then you." Quatre placed a kiss on Trowa's lips and patted his lap. Trowa put his head on Quatre's lap lovingly. He glanced at Wufei, wondering what he was thinking, but the teen was snoring noisily. His eyes seemed so heavy, like something was weighing them down. He closed his eyes as sleep finally caught up with him.

"You see, we didn't think Heero would recover so rapidly, but he did. Amazing, really. He'll probably be out in 3 days at the most. And its thanks to you, Duo. You helped Heero get better, including the others." The doctor chuckled in a friendly way. Out in three days? A wide smile spread across Duo's chiseled features. "WHOO!" He yelled startling the others. He told the others and the nurse brought them some champagne that she had in her cupboard, for occasions like this. It was horrible, but it was still champagne, and the best thing was that Heero could drink it! Heero was much better; all the after effects had gone except for the nosebleeds and hallucinations. Duo sipped happily at the champagne. He was also a little weak, but he could at least stand. "Wow, look guys, I spelt Duo in my Alphabits!™" Heero peered into the champagne bottle. "And it spells my, and you…ooh! It also spells could!" Qat, Tro, Fei, and Duo all stared at Heero. He was hallucinating again. "Very nice Heero! Good for you." Trowa tried to be nice to him. He had been hallucinating for days now…they were all pretty tired of it.

"Hehehehehe, your such a good dog aren't you? So beautiful." Heero petted Duo's knee. Duo winced visibly. It hurt to see Heero like this. So he tried to point it out to Heero. "Heero, there is no dog. Your petting my knee, Heero. Cant you understand that?!?" Duo was hysteric. Heero just looked troubled. "No, your eyesight's wrong or something. There's a little German Shepherd there." Heero continued to happily pat the non-existent dog. Duo let out a strangled sob and ran for the bathroom. Wufei stared at Heero and sighed. Poor Duo. It hurt him to see Heero like that, it hurts all of us. But Duo was always hit the hardest. I hope he's ok…

But Duo wasn't. He threw up in the sink…gasping for breath. The tears ran down his cheeks, hitting the tile with silent splashes. He dried his eyes with some tissues and splashed his face with water. "Stop it, Duo! This isn't helping and you know it!" He ran out of the bathroom, slamming the door, causing Heero to yelp. He ran out of the hospital and into the rain and let the heavenly cold water soak his skin and clothes. He couldn't take it anymore. It was unbearable, watching Heero suffer. But he couldn't leave, that would only hurt Heero, and make him think Duo didn't love him. But he did. His heart was almost bursting with love. He sighed miserably and walked back inside. The nurse handed him a towel. He nodded his thanks. He walked unhurriedly to the door of Heero's room. He looked through the little circular window and saw Trowa wiping blood off Heero's nose. Duo walked in as calmly as he could, and got another tissue, sweeping the blood away from Heero's nose. He hugged Heero and sat back down in the painful chair. Tomorrow, we're leaving, which will be good for Heero, and all of us. He thoughts left him as his eyes closed shut and his head drooped, sleep covering him like a shadow.

"Hey Duo, aren't you excited? We're leaving today!" Heero bounced happily. Quatre whispered something to Trowa and Tro nodded, his eyebrows raised in surprise. "Good idea, Qat." Was all Heero caught off the sentence. "Heero?" He looked over to Quatre and arched an eyebrow at him. "Yes, Qat?" Quatre cleared his throat. "I was just wondering if you would like to go to Bali after you get out." Heero could barely conceal his excitement. "Bali?!? Oh, yes, yes, yes! We absolutely must go! I've wanted to go to Bali for so many years!" Quatre grinned. But it faded as a frown creased Heero's forehead. "How are we going to pay for this?" Quatre chuckled. He had thought Heero was in pain or something. "Easy." Duo smiled fondly at Heero. "You know that time I said I was so bored I was gonna try selling homemade lemonade? Well…it turned out that the people loved my lemonade so much, that they bought containers of it for $15! So we ended up having…I'd say about $2000." Heero's eyes widened visibly. "Two thousand dollars?" He laughed. "So that's where all the pitchers went!" He smiled happily at his lover. "I would love to go to Bali." They sighed joyfully in unison. Another adventure to be seen to.

The end! *Evil grin* Yes, that's it! All you're ever getting! Unfortunately, there's a Part Two. *Sighs* Ah well…its so much fun anyway! *Skips away happily* ^_^
