Draped in darkness
We follow the unknown
Mysterious roads lye ahead
For so long there were endless possibilities
But now there is only one
Hiding in the shadows
We are the necessary evil…
Reaching out through the dark
There is a light waiting
Grasping it with all my faith
Watching my fallen tears
Ripple in the sea of sorrow
As I witness all my fears
Let that light be my tomorrow
Episode 05: Dreams within the Flame
Weeks had gone by and Sora had completely avoided his friends. That night haunts him to no end. How could he have torn that man apart? How could he have enjoyed it? Now when those nightmares hit him they become a lot worse, but there was no way he could have dealt with it on his own…
There the boy stood in a long sleeved, midnight-blue shirt, black slacks, black winter coat and his usual blue boots and gloves. His light blue hair blew slowly in the oncoming cool breeze. Before him was a head stone and he gazed at it sadly. "What do you think of me now, Rache?" he whispered.
"She's probably worried about you."
Sora turned around at the sound of the voice, but then turned away when he saw his best friend. Tracey wore his normal garb, which consisted of his light gray T-shirt, blue jeans, black leather jacket and black boots. Except now he was wearing a pair of purple tinted sunglasses to block out the glare that the snow was giving off.
"What are you doing here?" Came the quiet question from the wind master.
"I'm here to talk to you. You've been avoiding everyone for weeks and you've missed a couple of missions in the process."
"So? I just want to be left alone, Tracey…" his voice was a little shaky.
"No."
"What?" the aqua-eyed teen whipped around.
"I said no, I won't leave you alone. Sora, you can't run from me. Like it or not I am in sync with you. I can find you no matter where you run off to. I hate seeing you like this." The telepath gently placed his left hand on his friend's shoulder. "You need help…"
"I don't want to hurt you!"
"Huh?"
Tears sprung from the singer's eyes, "I don't want to hurt you or the others… That's why I haven't gone on any of the latest missions."
"What about school?"
"I've been late because I've been getting sick in the early morning."
"Nightmares?"
"Yeah. They've gotten a LOT worse…"
"Sora, I want to take you somewhere, okay?"
"I don't…"
"Do you trust me?"
"Of course I do."
"Than come with me."
With a nodded, the wind caster followed his friend to his car after one last respect to his sister. Once in the vehicle the black haired teen signaled to get back on the road and tapped his index finger impatiently at the oncoming traffic. Afternoon was always the worst time to be out driving in this city. When an opening was made Tracey pealed out of the space he was in and they were off.
The ride was silent for a couple of minutes then Sora decided to voice his question. "Where are you taking me?"
"To get some help."
"But where?"
"To a therapist downtown." He replied softly. The last thing he wanted was for him to hear was the anger in his voice. He wasn't mad at his friend, he was mad at all the fools on the road. "Since when did a 15 minute drive from the cemetery to the center of town turn into a five minute standstill?"
"Since you came to get me during rush hour."
"Have you been there all day?"
"If you're truly in sync with me, than you should already know the answer…"
"I know you're afraid, but you shouldn't be."
"Tracey, I hurt you!"
"Yes, but it's not like you meant to. The others know that as well."
The traffic started to move and Tracey made a break for the side street and go around, but then slammed on his breaks when someone with dark blue hair stood in the middle of the road. "What the hell?!" he honked the horn and the teen turned to see a fuming violet-eyed driver.
The boy seemed to be holding a camera in his left hand, but with his right he waved to his companions from school and smiled before he stepped onto the sidewalk. The two in the car waved back and drove off.
Sora blinked, "That was…"
"I know." The telepath didn't mean to sound annoyed, but he just wanted his best friend to get to his appointment.
After about six minutes the two boys arrived at their destination. Tracey had parked the car in the nearby parking garage and then they entered a three-story building. The waiting room they had walked into was nothing out of the ordinary. A large desk rested right next to the entry way, four chairs on the right wall, then a small couch and another two chairs on the wall straight ahead from the desk, then two more chairs on the wall next to the hallway which led to four different rooms. The walls were off-white and Sora felt like he was in a nut house as he sat in a chair that was closest to the corner. While his companion checked him in.
Tracey sat next to the quiet wind caster, who seemed to be trembling. "Don't worry, Dr. Kamble isn't going to harm you."
"Dr. Kamble? My mom's quack?"
"Shh. He's not a quack. He's a doctor and a good friend of my family's so please behave."
"But my mother can't afford to have me and herself in therapy."
"That's been taken care of. My mother's paying for it."
"Tracey?" a male voice questioned.
Upon hearing his name, the telepath looked over to see a man about 5'10", wearing a white button-down shirt, navy blue slacks and dark brown loafers. His light brown hair was pulled back in a loose ponytail and his bright blue eyes gazed on the two young men through his glasses.
The young guitarist stood to shake the man's hand, "Nice to see you again, Dr. Kamble."
"And you as well." The doctor peered over to Sora, who was refusing to make eye contact. "And you must be Kelly's son."
He nodded.
"Well why don't we all head into my office."
The sapphire-eyed boy again nodded in response then three entered the man's office. The room, much like the waiting area was very basic. There was a desk in the back and behind it was a large window that gave a nice view of the street below, a chair on the right wall, a couch on the wall next to the door and a plant in the corner. Plus he had his degrees hanging on the walls.
Sora and Tracey sat on the sofa and the doc took the chair from the wall and pulled it over so he was sitting in front of the couch. "Okay Sora, tell me how long have you known Tracey?"
"15 years." His eyes never met that of the therapist, instead they locked onto the teal carpet under his feet.
"I see. Have you two always been honest with one another?"
"Yeah… why are you treating this like a couples session? Trace isn't my problem."
The black haired boy turned so he was facing his childhood friend. His violet eyes showed more concern than anything else. "If you have been honest with me, than why did you lie?"
"I told you the truth. I don't want to hurt you or any one else. And this is not the place to discuss that."
"Actually" Dr. Kamble spoke up, "you can. I know about Iyada"
"So much for being covert…" the wind caster muttered.
"I'm an acquaintance of your aunt. With that settled, you know I have been treating your mother. And I shouldn't tell you this seeing that all these sessions are confidential, but your mom has been extremely worried about you since your sister died. She said you've been having nightmares, is that true?"
"Yes."
"How long have you been having them and what are they?"
"I've been having them for the past three years and they're different scenarios of how Rachel died."
"I don't want you to go in depth, but how serious are they?"
"It varies. Sometimes they're quick, but I still know what happened and more often than not they're extremely graphic. And I get sick."
"What do you mean, 'you get sick'?"
"I wake up from it and I feel nauseous. I go to the bathroom and throw up. Sometimes I bring up blood as well."
"Blood? Sora, has anyone witnessed this?"
"I have." Tracey spoke up.
"Have you told anyone?"
"No. He usually doesn't get sick around me, unless they are very graphic and the time he threw up blood I didn't know what to think. All I knew was that if I had taken him to the hospital my mother definitely would have said something to Kelly and Sora didn't need his mother on his case about it."
"Is that how you feel, Sora?"
"I didn't want to bother any body with it."
"Have your dreams changed any?"
"Now I can see the man's face…"
"You know who killed her?"
"Yeah… it was her teacher…"
"Sora, I was originally only going to speak with you for ten minutes because we all thought you wouldn't talk. But now it seems we have found one of the sources to your problems. Take off your coat and we'll have a full hour session, okay?" The blue-haired teen nodded slowly and removed his black jacket. Then the man spoke again, "How do you know who did this?"
"He was a target… he cornered me, commented my eyes and said that they reminded him of someone from three years ago. Then he said my sister's name…"
"Did he say anything else?"
"Yep. He said that his original target wasn't her at all. It was me…" tears started to well up in his eyes.
"Then what happened?"
"I tore him apart… limb from limb. And I enjoyed it…" at that last statement is when those tears fell.
"Sora…" Tracey's voice was that of a whisper as he reached his arm out to pull his friend closer to him. "Is that why you've been scared?"
"I enjoyed it and I hit you in the process. I… I…."
"You didn't know you hit me, right?"
"Yeah…"
"Than you enjoying what you had done had nothing to do with the fact that you had hit me and the others."
Dr. Kamble agreed with the telepath's statement, "It is understandable that you liked and are pleased with what you had done to this man. You put him through the same amount of pain that he had placed upon your sister. But I feel that I am overlooking something."
The wind user pulled away from his friend and looked right at the doctor through watery eyes, knowing very well what was missing from his sorrowful confession. "I'm to blame…" he choked out.
"Tracey," the man spoke while pulling out three dollars from his pocket, "I want you to get the three of us something to drink from the machine in the hallway. Can you do that?"
He nodded and took a hold of the money then turned to his grieving companion. "I'll be back in a few seconds, okay?"
"Yeah…"
After the reply the violet-eyed teen exited the room and that just left the doc and his patient. The therapist moved in a little closer, placing his left hand on top of Sora's. "I know why you're saying that you are to blame for Rachel's death. But I'm sure deep down you know that what you claim is not true."
"Yes, it is true because had I gone and done what I was supposed to do she would still be alive."
"Then chances are you'd be dead."
"Better me than her…"
"What was your reaction to your mother trying to kill you?"
"What do you think my reaction was?! I was terrified, but when those words left her mouth I knew she was telling me the truth. She has never lied to me."
"So in your mind because she had nearly strangled you and said that you were to blame for Rachel's death, you see it as a truth."
"It's not just her, that twisted, perverted man's original target was me. How can I live with knowing that?"
"Just take it one day at a time. There is no way you can reverse what has happened, but you do have friends and family here for you. And if your problem has to do with something in Iyada you know you can confine in Tracey. Speaking of him, you said that he wasn't your problem. Can you tell me why I'm starting to think that he is?"
A light pink blush appeared on the boy's cheeks. He took in a breath, made sure that his friend was not on the other end of the door and let his heart speak. "I'm in love with him…"
~~~
Tracey leaned against the soda machine, a blank look played on his face. 'Should I tell him that I know? I mean he's in a lot of pain and maybe hearing me say that I love him too would help. But then again it may put more pressure on him and that's the last thing I want…'
"What are you doing, Galace?" a female voice shrilled through his ears.
He glanced at the blond girl a few inches from him. "It's none of your business, Kimberly."
"Oh? You're either here because you have a photo shoot too or you're crazy. My money is on the second one."
The telepath hissed at his green-eyed companion. "For your information I am here with Sora."
"Is he all right?"
"Why do you care? You're a heartless bitch." His voice was flat and monotone.
"Well excuse me for worrying just a tad. I know he didn't mean to hurt the three of us. For God knows what reason he won't hurt a jackass like you."
"What would you know about friendship?! You're so cold and bitchy towards everyone that everybody and anybody can't stand to be near you."
"And for YOUR information, I have friends."
"Really? Name one."
She thought for a moment then blurted out the first name that came to mind. "Sora."
Hearing that sent the black haired youth into a chuckle. "You think… Sora's your friend? You are sadly mistaken, he is nothing other than your teammate and the same goes for Jason and myself. Come on, tell me a real friend."
"… … …"
"I'm in your mind right now. And I can't see anything, but the reason you joined Iyada."
"Cut it out!"
"Kim, you want friends? Than take a hint from your element and warm up to people instead of becoming the ice queen." He moved away from the machine and proceeded towards the door to the therapist's office, but stopped just before he walked in. "You killing your father really has no value. You did it out of self-defense. Just because he betrayed you, doesn't mean other people will. You have got to learn to trust, like the way you trust us in battle." With that he entered the office.
"Who said I trusted you…?" she mumbled before entering the room across the hall. The room wasn't really that big, it was made up of cameras and backdrops. A couple chairs in the corners and a desk on the back wall. A man with short dirty-blond hair and dark blue eyes looked at Kimberly in disappointment.
"You're late, Miss Miller."
"I'm sorry, Jonathan."
"No matter, now that you're here stand in front of the backdrop and let the camera work its magic."
~*~*~*
Sora sat in front of his computer and stared at the monitor. His friend sat on the bed gazing at him in silence. "Sora, are you all right?"
"Hm?" the blue-hired teen turned quickly, "Yeah. I feel a little better."
"That's good to hear." Said a familiar female voice, well familiar to the two of them at least. In the doorway was a woman with long brown hair that went just above the small of her back and her eyes shimmered like that of a sapphire. She carefully wheeled herself into the bedroom, trying not to catch the skirt of her dress in the wheels. "Did he say anything that is going to help you get over your nightmares?" she questioned.
The wind caster faced him mother, who was at this point sitting next to him. "Yeah, he also gave me a prescription for some anti-depressants."
"Does that make you nervous?"
"Just a smidge." He used his thumb and index finger as an example.
"So what did you talk about?"
"Mostly Rachel's death and…" he trailed off. His hands shook slightly as he recalled not only the discussion with Doc Kamble but also the memory of the entire event.
"Your step-father?"
"Uh-huh. And Dad too, but obviously I couldn't tell him much on that end."
"It's okay, sweetie." She moved in as best she could to give her son a small kiss on the cheek. "I'll pick up your meds on the way back from the restaurant. There's thirty dollars on the kitchen table for the two of you to order some food. There's thirty because I figured Tracey would want his AMERICAN Chinese food."
The telepath pouted, "Hey, don't make fun of me."
"Where are you going?" leave it to Sora to get the conversation back on track.
"Sarah and I are going to have a girls night out with Jen. We should be back around eleven or so."
"Okay. Say hi to Ms. Piolur for me." he got out of his chair and hugged him mother, "I love you."
"I love you too." She kissed him again then headed for the door with one last message. "Tracey?"
"Yes, Kelly?"
"Behave." Then she left the room as well as the apartment.
"So, you talked about your step dad when I was in the hall?"
"Yeah." He turned back to his computer and connected to the Internet. "Dr. Kamble thinks I'm still afraid of him."
"As well you should be. Sora, that man's whole intention was to kill you. Who knows what would have happened to you if I hadn't been there."
"I know." His sapphire eyes seemed very sad, but then they widened when a pop-up window took the entire space of the screen. "Oh god." He turned away, "Trace, look at this."
The telepath got off the mattress and wondered over to his blushing friend. And the pop-up even made him blush. "Sora, you have two phone lines, right?"
"Yeah…"
"Good." The black haired teen picked up the receiver and dialed his least favorite person in the world.
"Hello?"
"Kimberly, it's Tracey. Whatever you do don't hang up."
"I'm getting ready for a date. What do you want?"
"Come over to Sora's right now."
"Did you not hear me? I have a date."
"Cancel it. This is an emergency. Unless you want to be known as a whore for the rest of your life." He hung up.
"Tracey, that wasn't very nice."
"How else am I supposed to get her here?"
Kim stared at the monitor. "I didn't pose for this."
"We believe you." Sora said then decided to ask, "What did he say you were posing for?"
"For a fashion web site."
"What's the URL?" he typed it in as she said it. And sure enough it was a pornographic web page. As quickly as he was in, Sora closed the window. "It amazes me how someone can sit there and stare at porn all day."
"Jonathan is a dead man…" the blond grumbled.
"Sora," the guitarist said and pointed to the screen. "You have a new email."
"Let's see…"
Iyada,
You have a new mission. Southwest of town is a secluded area, which is owned by Jonathan P. Kraftory. He is also your target. He is wanted for kidnapping high school girls and making them pose for pornographic purposes. I am sorry to say that he has tricked a number of females as well. Kimberly happened to be one of them.
The three of you must go. Jason is unable to due to his son getting hurt earlier today. I am telling you to go as the creator of Iyada.
Go forth into the night…
K.D.
"Poor Travis…"
"The creator of Iyada…" Tracey pondered for a moment then shrugged, "I think we can worry about K.D. at another time. Right now, let's get Kimmy's revenge."
"Don't call me Kimmy."
~*~*~*
Sora sat on the wooden floor of the usual meeting place for the team. The lights were off which made the laptop he had in his possession cast an eerie glow on him. He wore his typical Iyada stuff and along with that a headset so he could remain in contact with the other two. 'I hope they don't kill each other…'
"Sora? Can you see us on your map?" His childhood pal asked.
"Yeah. The girls are in a storage shed about five feet to your left. The target is inside the estate in the den. Which is the third door on the ground floor. I'm going to start working on the virus. Good luck."
~~~
"You heard him. I'll save the girls. You go get your revenge." Then the telepath took off.
Kimberly made a quick approach to the large house. She peered into one of the windows, seeing that the cost was clear she entered through the front door. 'No alarm? What is this guy, a fool?' she snuck around till she found the opened door to the den. The blond girl leaned against the wall and peeked in carefully so she wouldn't be noticed.
There the man sat in front of his computer, altering what seemed to be a picture of Kimberly. The fire caster ground her teeth angrily. "Sora?" she whispered into her headset, "How's that virus?"
"About half. I can't just slap it together seeing that I am targeting every computer system that has been to this site."
"Where's Tracey?"
"On the map he is right in front of the shed."
~~~
The violet-eyed boy opened the wooded door. He sighed in relief when he saw that the girls were okay. They were just asleep. "Kimberly. I know you hate it when I use my telepathy, but the girls are asleep. I think they might have been drugged."
"Why do you think that?"
"Because of the puncture wounds on their arms. Dispose of him first then we can call the 911."
~~~
"Hey! What happened to my computer?!" Jonathan shouted in outrage.
"Good work, Sora."
"I'm trying to destroy all the data now. Go in and eliminate him."
The green-eyed girl walked in and leaned on the frame of the door. "What's the matter Jonathan? Your scheme not go as planed?"
"Kimberly…" he gasped.
Her eyes were set ablaze. She took a few steps, "You're the lowest of all scum…" she lit a flame in her palm, "Burn in hell." She threw it out and in a matter of seconds the house had become a dancing inferno.
~~~
"Trace?"
"We're fine Sora. The girls are out on the lawn and the target is dead. Tell K.D. that our mission is over."
"Roger." He opened his email. Mission Complete. Was all it said.
The next night Sora and the rest of Sleepless stood on stage. The music behind him gave off a technoish beat, but the lyrics that the blue-haired boy sang gave it some depth.
"The first step we have ever took
Was the one when we admitted
That we were in love
How could we have been so blind?
We were always at each other's side
For there is a dream in this fire
My burning desire
Take me by the hand
Falling deep in the heat of the moment
Let this dream of mine never end…
You can't run from me
We are never apart (Souls intertwine)
For as long as I have my memory
My heart is still a raging blaze
Burning Desire
Grant my wish, kiss me here and now
Your passionate touch
Let our fire grow
My burning desire
Take me by the hand
Falling deep in the heat of the moment
Let this dream of mine never end…"
The days go by
And there is nothing more
To me than your love
Sunbeams hide behind darkened clouds
Just like you hiding behind the redness in you cheeks
Rain starts to fall like tears
Tears I can't stand to see you cry
Walking through the rain
I see you waiting at the street corner
Soaked to the bone, I remove my jacket
Place it on your shoulders, hoping that there is no pain
Into the night we go
For we have a job that needs to be done
I know it hurts, but I'm here with you
Fighting in the rain
It pours down still like endless tears
I will take all the blows for you
If it means for you that there is no more pain
Walk through the rain
