Mysterious Savior

Part 1

My eyes are burning... Over and over I have watched the video footage of Meteor crashing into Midgar. Surprising to a lot of people, including those whom I have worked with, I do have feelings and I do regret letting Sephiroth get as far as he did. Midgar may have been a drab and dismal place to live, but never the less it was my home too.

The tape paused as my boss spoke to make his point as to why he was having me watch this disaster. "Reno, I have had you watched this countless times to see if you had noticed anything about the incident."

"I keep seeing the same thing, Mr. President." I sigh in aggravation. "I am the only one other than yourself still with the Shinra, please just tell me what you want me to see..."

"I want you to see the source of me still living and the destruction of half of Midgar." He pressed a button on the remote making the picture flow in slow motion. With only four taps of the button the video froze on the face of a young woman. "This is the source."

"A girl?"

"Ah, but she is like no other, for you see, you know her as well as I do."

I stand from my seat at the conference table, leaning forward to get a better look at this 'heroine'. "That's..." I gasp. I was at a lost for words.

"Yes. I have no doubt now, since seeing the look on your face, that that is Trinity."

Trinity... I haven't heard that name for at least five years. "Why? Why would she save you or Midgar?"

"That's what has me baffled." Rufus admitted, but continued to speak as if it didn't bother him in the least. "If I remember correctly, she vowed never to set foot in the slums again if she made it out of the corporation."

"She hated you for so long..." My voice sounded angry. I was upset with him back then and any time that this scenario had played itself in a conversation I would revert back into that hatred. "Even if you were the one that helped me with her escape..."

"Reno," the President sat in the head chair, his elbows on the table and hands folded in front of his face, "do you know how Trinity came to be in our possession?"

I sat back in my seat, "No. By the time I met her she had no recollection of how she came to Shinra Inc.."

"She was found wondering the slums of Sector 3 by Tseng. When he took her in she was sent to the lab."

"Wait. Why would Tseng take in a child?"

"Because, do you remember what was around her wrists?"

I thought about. I really didn't pay much attention to her wrists. The only things I could remember were her messy silver hair, dark violet eyes and the small meaningful smile. "No."

"I'll give you a hint. Mako."

"Materia..."

"Correct. Tseng brought her here so we could analyze the orbs. My father's original idea was to rip the Materia out of her, but then Hojo suggested something."

"And that was?"

He shook his head, "I honestly have no clue and after my father's death I tried to uncover that secret, but to no avail. If there was no documentation, then the only known knowledge about the experiments done went with Hojo to his grave."

"The Shinra building has been destroyed, Tseng lost his life to Sephiroth at the Temple of the Ancients, Elena and Rude have gone their separate ways, Scarlet and Heidigger are permanently gone and as you said Hojo is dead. By looking at all angles of this... the Shinra is dead as well..." I mutter. But knowing my blond boss he heard every word.

"I'm not admitting defeat yet, Reno. The main building may be gone, but as you can see Junon is still standing and is in my power. You and I still remain and I have a new recruit." He rose from his chair, his icy gaze set on the main door to the office. "Enter at once."

My attention diverted to the large doorframe. A man around 6'2" stood professionally in the navy blue Turks uniform. His bleach-blond hair was styled in the same way that the President's was and his eyes were hidden behind dark shades.

"Reno, this is your new partner from this day forward. Tyler Coursair."

He approached me, removed his shades revealing his gentle sea-blue eyes and extended his hand, "Please to meet, Leader of the Turks..." he smiled.

I had a bad feeling about this... To be polite and not have Rufus yell at me I shook the man's hand. Quickly removing my grip I turn to the blond president. "My partners will always be Rude and Elena. What is the meaning of this?"

"I am starting the reconstruction of Shinra Incorporated and the first step I took was getting some new employees."

"And I'm guessing that your second step involves Trinity..." I placed my left hand into a fist and felt it shaking out of my anger.

"Yes. You and Tyler will go out and find her. She was a great asset to us when she was here, however the only reason I helped her escape was because I didn't like her in Hojo's evil hands."

"What's your guarantee that I will bring her back here once I find her?"

"I have no true guarantee, except my trust in you and your loyalty to me." he moved over to stand in front of me. His eyes had no bad intentions in them, but that didn't mean much since I was dealing with Rufus Shinra. "I just want to talk with her. She was able to achieve some things that shouldn't be possible, not even the Materia on her wrists could assist her in what she has done. I no longer wish to rule with fear, for now I know what fear is. Trust me Reno, I will not harm her."

"Fine." I sigh. Rufus may have been sincere, but I know nothing about this Tyler character. Why would he just show up like that? This is way too convenient...
