Peacemillion landed in front of the Romefeller Empire a few hours later. The female soldier tied her prisoners' hands in front of them and then shoved them forward making them walk single file to the captivity sect. But it was only the five boys that she had taken, she left Dr. Howard with one of her comrades and had her stay with him until further notice.
She pushed all five of the boys into a small cell and locked it. Quatre looked at the girl with tear filled eyes, "Why Mura?"
"Please don't misunderstand. You'll only be prisoners until I speak with my boss. Please don't hate me..."
"Too late." WuFei snarled from the back of the cell, "We trusted you and now we find out that we've trusted someone from the enemy forces. If I had known that when we met I wouldn't have saved you!"
"I know why you're angry WuFei, but believe me when I tell you it wasn't me who attacked your village and killed your wife. I have killed many people and I regret taking those lives. But I was never in Irrishi. The person you're after is my boss."
Trowa gave the young woman a questioning gaze as the words spate from her mouth, "Mura does that mean it was-"
"Yes. I was the one who murdered her highness of Momoiro, Quatrine."
The blond mage burst into tears just then. "How? Why?! Why would you do that?! My mother didn't do anything to you!"
"I was ordered to. I was to track her down and kill her, I also had orders to annihilate the king of Vishira. They said to get rid of anything that stood in my way. So I burned down most of the kingdom. And of course now it's no longer in ruins and the princess is soon to be wed to her fiancé Melody. They moved on with everything, why can't you Quatre? Is it because I was once your friend and have betrayed you or is it just the fact that the betrayal existed before we met?"
"I was wrong about you!" the prince shouted while more tears made their appearance, "I was wrong… You're nothing but a cold, heartless bitch!"
"That's enough!"
The girl looked in the direction of the outburst and saw the paladin with an infuriated expression on his face, "Heero, you remember me, don't you? It just took you awhile after all the last time you saw me, you were five."
"Yes, I do remember you and Duo as well. I never forgot you two. But this is not the Mura I remember…"
*Flashback*
A young brown haired boy sat on the lush grass as a small church stood behind him. His Prussian eyes watched a group of children playing and running around.
"Why aren't you playing with the other kids, Heero?" the sister asked when she stepped out of the tiny building.
"They don't like me and I don't like them."
"That's not true. You just need to open up and except some friends."
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"Oh my!" the nun ran into the church with the boy right behind her. They entered the main room and saw the father with a pair of scissors in his hand.
"Sister Helen, please try to cut Duo's hair." The man pleaded.
"I shall do my best, but where is he?"
Heero walked around the small room. There wasn't anywhere that the other boy could hide and get by unseen. The Prussian eyed boy stopped suddenly at the small sound of someone whispering "Hey."
He blinked for second and knelt down to one knee. He peered under a pew and saw a violet-eyed boy, "Why are you hiding?"
"Because I don't want my hair to be cut. I like my hair…" he pouted.
"Come out here and sit in front of me." he whispered and then moved to the side. Duo sat in front of him and flinched as Heero started to 'play' with the soft chestnut strands. A minute or so later the dark haired boy stood and waved to the adults, "Is it okay if he has his hair like this?"
The boy in question then stood and revealed a long and beautiful braid. Sister Helen smiled, "That looks wonderful Duo. If you keep it back and stay out of trouble I won't cut your hair."
He saluted, "Righto!" he then grabbed Heero by the arm and dashed out of the room.
The two boys were once again outside in the back of the church. The longhaired child smiled at his companion, "Thanks for helping me out and here I thought you hated everyone but yourself."
"Don't get me wrong. I didn't mind helping you out. We have no parents, we basically have nothing and if we feel strongly about something that we do have then we should be able to hold onto it."
"Are you sure you're five years old?"
He nodded. Duo's smile got bigger as he pulled the other boy into a tight embrace, "Well if your statement is true then I have you now and I don't ever wanna let you go!"
"Leave me alone!"
Heero and the violet-eyed boy pulled apart from each other and saw some of the other kids picking on a girl with long purple hair and icy blue eyes. The two of them ran to her side. Duo knelt down next to the fallen girl, "Are you hurt?"
She shook her head. The Prussian eyed boy glanced at his newly found friend and the girl then to the group of children, "What's your problem?! Tell me! She didn't do ANYTHING to you! Why are you picking on her?!"
One of the boys laughed, "She's different from us. Look at her, she has purple hair and if you look closely enough you can see bits and pieces of silver. She's a freak."
"No she's not!" Duo shouted as he stood from the ground, "She has no family! She has no home! She is JUST like us!"
The kids just shrugged and walked off. The two boys looked back at the girl who was now brushing off her clothes and dangling from her neck was a feather shaped pendant. "I haven't seen you here before." Heero said breaking the silence.
"Sister Helen found me about three days ago. I just stayed in my room until today and from the looks of it I should have just stayed there."
"Nah." The chestnut haired boy grinned, "Those guys are a bunch of jerks anyway. I'm Duo and this is Heero. He never really talks to anyone and I bet for the first time in all his five years of living he actually did and said something!"
The girl giggled, "I'm Mura."
Time passed and soon all but Heero, Duo and Mura had been adopted. The three of them had become quite the trio. They did everything together from eating to playing jokes of Father Maxwell and Sister Helen. Until one day…
The three of them sat under a cherry blossom tree in the back of the church when Father Maxwell approached with a strange man with him. "Heero, this is Odin Lowe. He would like to adopt you."
"I have to go?"
"Don't worry." The man knelt in front of the dark haired five-year old, "I'll take good care of you and I'll let you say goodbye to your friends." He stood and walked back into the church with the father close in tow.
"Take care of Duo for me Mura."
"I will…"
"No! I want you to stay!"
"I want to too, but I can't."
Duo jumped from his spot on the ground and hugged his friend, "Don't go!" he said while a few tears made their way down his cheeks.
Heero put his arms around the crying boy, "I'll see you again, I promise…"
"No…"
Mura got out of her place next to the tree trunk and placed her arms around the two of them, "One day Duo, we'll all be together again."
"Why can't we just stay together now?"
"Because Duo" she whispered, "it's fate."
*End flashback*
"That's the person I remember. You were right, we did meet up again, but is this fate too?! Answer me Mura."
"Perhaps and I never wanted for us to meet up again like this. But imagine this Heero, after you left, the church was destroyed and we were taken in by Duke Dermail. Then one day my brother had vanished and I only had a few answers as to why and where. I was alone again! Now if you'll excuse me I must report to my boss." She walked off.
She entered her room a few minutes later only to find Dorothy Catalonia sitting on her bed. "What do you want Dorothy?"
"Were you looking for Chi? Or my grandfather?"
"Chi, but when I didn't see him in his office I looked for Duke Dermail and found no sign of him as well."
"That's because he died while you were away. And I have reason to believe that Chi is responsible for his death."
"Why would you think that?"
The blond women sighed, "Think about it Mura. This war started when my grandfather sealed Duo away."
"That brings up another thing. Why did he stick Duo in that cave?!"
"Because… Well… I'm not really sure. I don't even know why you have his voice, but stop to think who wanted your brother free? Who was it that hit on every woman in a twelve-foot radius while you were away? Think back, what did he say to you before you left? Why did he want Duo?"
"God… He called him a 'God'… Of course, I must admit now I don't understand. I never understood any of this. I just did what I thought that your grandfather wanted…"
*Flashback*
"Have you found them?" asked a low male voice.
"But of course. Once they reach the Cave of Oblivion they will find what has been sealed there." The female companion replied.
"Hm. But you hold the key to the end of this world."
"True, but I've noticed that it will only respond to its host. I just hold the voice of the god. Who would have thought that this legend was a reality…"
"Then you know what must be done."
"Of course. After they free the black mage from his bonds, I will lead them here. Then we can prepare for the end of the world, but I must confess, I'm not sure why you want to destroy the planet."
"Life has no meaning until you reach the heavens. Of course we will be taking a lot of innocent people for our ideals, but just think of it as us speeding up what was to come along later." He chuckled.
"So you're just playing 'God'?"
"No, we're not playing. We will become what the outsiders call 'God'."
"Well then, if you are to become the all mighty I should be on my way." Suddenly her voice became somewhat not hers, "Shinigami waits for no one…"
The man grabbed her arm and pulled her into an embrace, "Be sure not to reveal who you are until you've led them here. And are you positive that these boys will be able to reach the Death of Darkness?"
"A paladin, a white mage, a lancer and a summoner you have nothing to fear. Bravery is one thing that is necessary to enter that cave. This mission will be a snap with a party like this…" she removed herself from the man's grasp, "Of course I can't promise that I'll be yours after I team up with a crew of cute guys like them." She left the room with a small giggle.
*End flashback*
"I really do hold his voice… I thought it was just a game that we'd play. Am I just a pawn?"
"Think Mura, you don't have much time."
"The power to end the world… he's going to try and use Duo to destroy the planet! But Duo's not a demon or god… it was just a story…"
"Even so you can't take the chance that Chi gets a hold of him."
"You're right, Dorothy. Go to the hanger and tell the guards to release Dr. Howard. Oh and retrieve the Staff of Momoiro before you go."
"What about you?"
"I'm going to my friends." She then picked up her pace and high-tailed it back to the captivity sect. She stopped in front of the cell breathless, taking out a key she unlocked the door and opened it, "Get going!"
The five boys stepped out and gave the female soldier a questioning gaze. "Why should we trust you?!" WuFei snarled.
"You did it once and you can do it again." She stepped in front of the black mage and brushed her lips against his.
He pushed her away, "What the hell was that?!" he blinked, "I can talk…"
"I have no time to explain Duo, just retrace your steps and go to the hanger!"
Not even arguing the boys ran to the hanger and stopped before a blond-haired woman with clear blue eyes. Heero arched an eyebrow, "Who are you?"
"That's not important." She stood in front of Quatre and held out the staff, "This belongs to you, Prince of Momoiro."
"My mother's staff…"
"Hurry, I'm sure the guards have already passed Mura. Get on Peacemillion and go."
The guys agreed and boarded the airship. The ship jolted a bit and then took off with a few Romefeller ships close behind. The ships fired missile, after missile, after missile until they made contact causing Peacemillion to dive. Heero held onto Duo's hand, "I'm not letting go!"
Another missile hit and the two boys started to lose their grip on one another. "Heero don't let me fall!"
Trowa held his koibito close, but with each hit they too had begun to slip away. Then with one final shot the ship Peacemillion went down and the five boys landed in dark woods and not all in one place…
Quatre opened his eyes slowly and saw a pair of violet orbs looking down at him in concern, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Duo." He sat up, "Where is everyone?"
"Well WuFei's over there with his fire dragon and I don't know about Heero or Trowa..." the longhaired boy sighed, "WuFei summoned Hono just in time for us to be saved, but I didn't see Heero…"
"Hey!" The two boys glanced over to the summoner who was leaning against a tree, "Look, I'm sure they can take care of themselves. Now we have to think of a way out of here considering we have no clue as to where we are."
"Brilliant conclusion, all mighty summoner. But what about the others? What about the people that mean something to us?" he spat out while pointing to himself and Quatre.
"We find a place and wait for them. Now if you have that big of a problem with me then you can find your way out on your own." He turned to leave.
The blond step forward, "Wait, you said it yourself we have to no clue where we are. So where are you going?"
"Forward. Hono and my ring have been reacting to something this way and I'm going to find out what. It's your choice whether or not you follow me."
Duo ran in front of the raven-haired boy and moved to strike him in the face only to have WuFei grab his wrist, "Can I help you?"
He pulled his arm away, "We choose whether to follow? You would leave the prince behind in this place where we don't even know where it is?! What would Heero think of this?"
"For your information, I don't respond or obey Heero. Or mission was to get you out of that fucking cave and end this goddamn war! Getting you didn't do anything, I could care less what happens now. Are you two coming or not?"
They nodded and followed the summoner. Quatre and Duo walked a few inches behind the other boy. The white mage leaned closer to Duo, "Forgive WuFei. He's been through a lot."
"I can see that. And I can sense that it has to with my sister…"
"Yeah, a little. The only other thing I can think of that's eating away at him is the fact that his wife died in his arms."
"He was married?!"
WuFei stopped in his tracks, his eye was twitching just a bit, "Yes, I was married. No, I did not love her. It was an arranged marriage and yes I do regret letting her die. It was my fault she's dead in the ground, now drop it." he stared to walk again.
"WuFei, I'm sorry."
"I know you are. You're just concerned about the person that you care for that you haven't seen in ten years. I get it and I will help you find him."
"Uh… you might want to stop moving or else you're going to step in…" the prince gasped as he watched his friend step on and walk on top of the small lake.
"Huh?" the violet-eyed mage blinked and brought his right foot forward, "Well if he can do that, so can we." He put his foot down, "…Ewwww." He took his now wet foot out of the water and watched the raven-haired summoner closely.
WuFei went down on one knee and placed both of his hands at his sides with his palms directly on the liquid. His eyes were shut and he seemed to be in deep thought.
A loud screeching sound was then heard as a giant bat came flying through the area and shattering all the trees it touched. It stopped in mid air and gazed down at the two mages. It's blood red eyes looked at them with pure hunger.
Duo quickly drew his scythe as Quatre did his staff. The white mage twirled his staff around as a navy-blue and gold glow appeared around him. He then raised his staff into the air, "Starlight Protection!" two barriers formed in front of the two of them.
The longhaired boy placed his hand on the blade of the scythe, igniting it on fire, "Blaze Strike!" he threw his weapon at the creature, but to Duo's dismay it avoided it easily.
The bat then flew forward and rammed into the two boys causing the barriers to shatter and send them flying on their backs. The creature then set its sight on the summoner. Watch its razor sharp teeth bared, it flew towards the unsuspecting boy.
"WuFei, watch out!" Duo shouted.
The water around the onyx-eyed summoner began to sway. His eyes flew open, "Misu, come forth!" the liquid beneath him shot straight up shooting the boy into the air. He slowly started to fall to the ground only to be caught be a blue and aqua dragon.
The dragon gently placed its new master on the ground. WuFei looked at the strong and beautiful beast, "Will you help us?"
Misu glided forward and struck the bat in the back. It screeched loudly, causing the three boys to cover their ears and to their surprise some of the trees around them shattered.
The bloodthirsty creature brought its teeth down upon the water dragon and began to suck its blood. The dragon roared and summoned up a wave from the lake and with full force crashed into the bat and knocking it back.
"Misu, return!" he held out his ring and with a small blue flash the dragon vanished. He then faced Duo, "Hurry up!"
The violet-eyed mage nodded and held his above his head, "Powers from above. Come down and aid us with the anger of the gods…" lightning began to crash around him. He moved his hand to the front, "Lightning Rage!" the bolts of electricity quickly found their way to the monster.
The bat screeched one last time and then vanished. The three boys sighed in relief. Quatre took a look at the fallen trees, "I don't get it. Why did they shatter?"
"Because they are made of crystal…" WuFei grumbled.
"Does that mean you know where we are?" Duo asked.
"Yes."
The cave on the other side of the small lake started to spread open and on the other side some light had started to shine through. The travelers entered the cave and then found them selves standing in the middle of a town.
WuFei sighed again, "The woods are made out of crystal and it is only noticeable when in the town that is only lit by the stars and moon. This is the town of Starlight."
"WuFei?"
The summoner looked in the direction that the voice had come from and saw a man in his late thirties running towards him. He stopped right in front of him, catching his breath for a moment and then spoke. "It's been awhile. Do you remember me? I'm the inn keeper."
"Raiden…"
"Yeah. The last time I saw you, you were with your father.'
WuFei's eye twitched, "Yeah, well I've been busy."
"Oh yes, of course. With a wife and all, I understand and I'm sorry about your father's death. I know you must be in a rush, but feel free to stay at my inn. And don't worry it's my treat." He turned on his heals and started to walk off, "Oh and go pay your respects to the statue in the center of the town."
"Let's go to the statue." Duo suggested while pulling on his companions' arms.
They stood before the statue and the summoner held his right hand in a fist. "You bastard. You don't deserve any praise…" he spit on the monument's foot.
"WuFei?" the blond questioned, "Did you know this person?"
"He's my father." He faced his two friends, "I don't want to talk about it so let's just go to the inn and wait for Trowa and Heero." He brushed passed them and stormed off.
"Quatre, why does he dislike his father?"
"I don't know. But this looks like it is beyond that of dislike, it's pure hatred."
~*~*~*
What's going on? Mura's a Romefeller soldier... Duo's back in my life, but he's the black mage that has been causing all the trouble on the planet. But what happened after that? Mura took us to the Empire and locked us away. Duo couldn't speak and it seemed he had no idea what was happening in the world around him. Then my childhood friend let us out and kissed her 'brother' and suddenly he could speak. We then made our way back to Peacemillion, but we were followed.
"Heero don't let me fall!"
I let go… even though I didn't want to. We all fell… So where…?
"Duo!" the white knight shouted and shot straight up.
"Calm down Heero."
"Trowa. Where are we?"
"A small clinic in the middle of the woods."
"Where are the others?!" he tried getting out of bed but was gently pushed back down.
"You have to rest…" said the female doctor.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Dr. Sally Po. I found the two of you not too far from here. Trowa's injuries weren't too serious, but yours on the other hand seem to be more mental. In your sleep you were calling out the name 'Duo'. I was starting to wonder if it was because of your concussion, but then Trowa told me about your friends."
Heero blinked, "Then where are they?"
"I only found you two. If your friends are still alive I'd imagine that they are in the town of Starlight."
"There's a town near here?" the lancer questioned.
"Yes. If you just head north there is a cave. Go through that and you'll end up in the town."
The Prussian eyed boy slowly sat up and stood from the bed, "Let's go. I need to see Duo."
"Heero, you have to be careful."
"Trowa. If we find that Duo is dead then there is a likely chance that your desert prince is too. I have to see that everyone is okay."
The emerald eyed lancer nodded. And assisting Heero they walked out of the doctor's clinic in search of their companions.
The two of them entered Starlight and were in awe over the sight. Shaking themselves out of their shock they proceeded to search the town for their companions, starting with the most obvious place, the inn.
Trowa stepped in first then followed right by Heero. Taking quick glances around the area, they nearly missed the small group sitting at a table in the far left-hand corner. The paladin blinked and rubbed his eyes to be sure that what he saw was real and not his concussion.
"Duo!"
The braided boy turned to the voice and saw his love standing in the middle of the room. His eyes lit up just as the stars themselves did in the town and ran over to him.
Quatre noticed the sudden movement and took a look at was going on. He sighed in relief when he saw the lancer standing next to the blue eyed boy. Also like the black mage had done, he too jumped out of his seat and flung his arms around the taller boy.
After a few minutes of a joyful reunion the four travelers sat back down with their other friend, who was glaring out the window. Heero cleared his throat to get everyone's attention, "Now that we are all back together and in one piece, do any of you have an idea on where to go from here?"
"I think I may know of a place where we can go and end this charade." The violet-eyed mage spoke and he seemed to have everyone's interest, "It's called the Fated Plains. I have the power to the war and I will…" he felt strong arms wrap around and he smiled knowing that the white knight would always be there with him.
WuFei stood from his seat and had his back to the group, "I'll tell Raiden to wake us at dawn." He walked off.
Later that night…
The summoner tossed and turned restlessly in his sleep. Remembering days long ago and forgotten…
WuFei sat in his room, he was about ten years old. He sat on his bed reading a book. He snorted to himself, "Ridiculous. There is no such thing as the Fated Plains, Cave of Oblivion thus such a black mage could not exist."
"And why not? Don't you know anything is possible if only you believe in it?"
The young boy looked up from his reading and saw a woman with flowing black hair and violet eyes. "Mom, the only thing I need to believe in is myself."
"You're never going to get through life that way. Now-"
"Just tell the kid and let's go!"
The woman sighed as she heard the order from her husband, "Your father and I are leaving."
"You're searching for other summons again, aren't you?"
"Yes."
The boy shook his head in dismay, "No one needs that much power. Especially him…"
"WuFei…" she knelt down in front of him and placed him in a gentle and warm embrace, "He's still your father and you need to respect him."
"Why should I? He's nothing, but a womanizing asshole."
"No, he's not… he just-"
"Saiya!" The raven-haired boy and his mother looked at the doorway and saw a man with dark brown hair and angry onyx eyes. "I thought I told you to hurry up."
"I'm coming." She released her son, stood from the floor and approached her husband, but before she left she turned back and gave the boy a loving smile, "I love you…"
"Come on now, you damn woman! You're going to make him all soft!" he grabbed her arm and roughly pulled her out of the room.
Two months had gone by when the man came back. The onyx-eyed boy looked from his father to the doorway and then back to his father, "Where's mom?"
"None of your concern."
"It is when she went with you and is now nowhere in sight." He looked at his supposed father over and noticed that his father looked completely different. He seemed to be angrier, his hair was red like blood and his eyes were golden and they seemed to hold no emotion except for anger, hatred and disgust. "What have you done to her?!"
The red headman backhanded his son across the face causing him to fall backwards and landing on the floor, "She's dead and if you're not careful you'll end up the same way." He walked off..
Four years later…
WuFei was sitting at his small desk studying when his father just walked in and slammed his palm onto the tabletop. The raven-haired boy looked up from his studies, "Can I help you?"
"You're getting married."
"Excuse me?!"
"You heard me. Quit studying, you're getting married and you are going to become a summoner."
"NO! I refuse, I'm not power hungry like you! All I want to do is study and you can't even let me do that!"
"Shut up." He grabbed the teen's wrist and brought it up to his face.
"Let me go, you bastard!"
The man grinned and roughly shoved a ring onto the boy's finger, "You are my son whether I like it or not. You're a summoner from this day forward!" he threw the hand down, "You will follow in my footsteps."
"I'll never be like you!"
His father placed a hand on his head and then pushed it onto the desk, "You will and you'll change just like I have…"
"Never!"
The golden-eyed man pushed down harder on the boy's head, "You don't have a choice. You are of my blood and lucky for you it's only the males that can achieve such greatness." Without another word he released his son and walked out.
WuFei lifted his head and glared at the doorway, "I'm never going to be you. I'll see to it that I'm not…" he tried removing the ring, but it was tightly succored around his ring finger. "Damn it, come off!"
"It can't come off!" his father shouted from downstairs, "You ARE one step closer…"
"Damn…" in one swift motion, the fourteen year old knocked everything off of his desk, "Damn it!!!" he buried his face in his hands.
Months had gone by and WuFei had gotten married to a girl named Merin. Even though a week before the marriage his father was killed he was still forced into it. The two of them never got along and one day the unthinkable happened.
The village of Irrishi was attacked by Romefeller and a separate organization called OZ. The townspeople ran in fear for their lives, but one person was going to stand up to it.
Merin stood in front of the leader of the attack, her staff in hand she summoned the fire dragon, Hono. The person laughed at her attempts as he watched her struggle to control the monster.
The dragon started to spit flames everywhere, setting a good majority of the village in a blaze. The dark haired girl called her monster back several times, but failed. It continued its rampage and the man at the head of the attack immediately turned the dragon against its 'master'.
"How are you…?" she stammered.
The man chuckled, "It's quite simple, my dear. But unfortunately you won't live ling enough to hear the reason. Hono-"
"Hono return!"
The dragon vanished and the person applauded, "Well done. You maybe an ammeter, but it's clear that you are the first child of KaiRyu Chang."
"Don't compare me to that bastard. What do you want?"
"To be the most powerful like adoptive grandfather. And to do so this village must be destroyed!"
WuFei started to shake, "Even from beyond the grave you manage to wreck my life…" he muttered, "But I refuse to let anything happen!" he fell to his knees and the shaking had become pure shuttering. "I won't… I won't be like you!!!!!!!!!"
Merin ran over to her husband and placed her arms around him, "It's all right. We can stop this without 'his' help…" she held onto him tightly until he calmed down and when he finally did she fell to the ground taking in heavy breaths.
The man shook his head in disappointment, "My it seems you are the most powerful…" he laughed, "Until we meet again, Summoner." he ran off into the distance with his forces right behind him.
The onyx-eyed teen held his wife in his shaking arms, "Merin, are you-?"
"It's okay… Don't…" her eyes drifted shut and she became unmoving.
"Merin, did-I? Merin, what did-I? Merin?!"
WuFei shot straight up in his bed in a cold sweat. He brought his left hand up to his face and felt moister. Silently he arose from the mattress and walked outside. He wandered a little bit, but the wandering lead him to the statue of his father.
His eyes quivered, as he looked the large piece of stone over. His eyes then landed on his ring. He clenched his hand in a fist and observed the fact that it was shaking. "I can't believe this." He glared at the statue, "I'm turning into you…" suddenly he felt very ill, he took his hand out of the fist and placed it in the statue to support himself. He then proceeded to cough and the next thing he knew he was bringing up blood.
"Are you all right?" a gentle voice asked as he placed a comforting hand on the other boy's shoulder.
He slapped it away and spun around, "Don't touch me!" trying to maintain his balance he walked away.
The white mage watched the retreating body and then glanced at the ground. Spots of crimson liquid clung to the dirt. "WuFei…"
Dawn came and the other three boys stepped outside the inn. Trowa had concern written on his face until he spotted his koi next to the statue. He approached him placed his arms around the slender mage. "How long have you been out here?"
"Only a few hours…" Quatre kept his eyes downcast, "WuFei was out here."
"So?"
"So something's..."
A whistle sounded through the air and the four travelers looked in its general direction and spotted the summoner standing next to the exit. They walked over to him, Duo smiled brightly and then faced the whole group. "The Fated Plains aren't too far from here. Once there let me do what I have to."
Heero gave a nod and once again took the head of the party, "Let's go." One by one they filed out of Starlight. Heero in the front, Duo behind him, then Trowa and bringing up the rear were Quatre and WuFei.
The blond watched the raven-haired boy closely. His curiosity getting the better of him he voiced his question rather softy, "What happened to you last night?"
"It's nothing, drop it."
"But I heard you say 'I'm turning into you'. What do you mean and why did you get ill all of a sudden?"
"I told you it's nothing and please do not tell the others and that includes Trowa. Do you understand? This is my problem and I don't want you or anyone to get involved."
"Okay. But other than that, is there anything else on your mind?"
"Actually, yes."
"What?"
"Duo. He knew where we were."
"What?"
"How else would he know where the so called Fated Plains are?"
"Do you think he's leading us into a trap?"
WuFei thought for a second, "If Mura did, why can't her brother?"
After some time of continuous walking the five boys found themselves walking into a camp of traveling performers. The lancer blinked and then looked around when they heard someone shouting. "Trowa!"
The travelers turned their attention to a girl with redish-brown hair and violet eyes. Her white dress was very beautiful on her. She stopped in front of the green-eyed boy and placed him in a tight embrace.
He hugged her back and gave her a gentle smile, "Catherine, what's the group doing way out here?"
"We just got finished performing in Irrishi and are now on our way to Starlight."
"Trowa," the black mage spoke up with the utmost curiosity, "who's this?"
"This is my sister, Catherine Bloom. She's a dancer."
Trowa's koi smiled at the woman, "It's good to see you again, Catherine."
She finally pulled back from her brother and bowed, "It's nice to see you too. Your majesty."
"Please, there is no need to be so formal."
"I'm sorry, but we can't stay." The uni-banged lancer said sadly, "We are on our to the Fated Plains."
"I don't know where that is, but we did pass some plains that had three pillars in the middle of nowhere. It was very strange…"
Duo grinned, "That's where we're headed and if you passed it it's not too far away…" he grabbed the paladin's arm, "Come one everyone!"
WuFei watched for a moments as his companions walked off. His eyes quivered as one thought entered his mind. This is bad. He seems to be naive, but there is more to this than meets the eyes. That damn story that I read when I was younger said that the black mage was freed by some of the finest fighters on the planet and then he lead them to the Fated Plains where he… he quickly shook himself out of his thoughts and dashed after the others.
The walking had ceased when Duo had stopped right in the middle of the three pillars. He looked back at his friends who were on the sidelines. "Now… this is where it all ends. The war ends here."
He placed his hands above his head and shut his violet eyes. Then he started to chant a small spell that started to cause the clouds to overcast and turn everything black.
WuFei listen carefully to what the longhaired boy was saying then he found himself reciting the same thing that the mage was. "With everything in my being I will release the power that can shatter the souls of the gods…" his eyes widened when he remembered the story, "Stop!" he ran forward but was unable to reach Duo for there was an invisible shield protecting him.
"WuFei?" Heero questioned.
"He's going to destroy the planet…"
A strange sound echoed through the valley and the next thing any of them knew the barrier was broken, Duo was on the ground scowling and standing before him was non other than Mura.
Her armor, now blue and she seemed to have another motive in mind. She turned, facing the four other boys. She stepped forward and approached the white knight. Seeing her movement, the Prussian eyed boy back away.
"Don't be afraid Heero."
He stopped and stared at her, "What's going on?"
"They were right in sealing Duo away." She placed her hand on his chest, "It's my fault and I'm going to set it right. Dorothy will take you to the next town on our ship, Libra." A glow started to emit from the boy's chest. He gasped for air and then the purple haired female released a sword.
Heero looked very pale, he slowly set himself on the ground and Quatre was immediately there by his side. "What have you done to him?!" he hollered.
WuFei looked from the sword to the girl's face, "That's the sword of Crescens… the legendary weapon that's able to destroy evil and defy fate."
Mura looked deep into the onyx eyes, "You remember that story, don't you? But it's not a story, it's a cruel reality that fate had in store." She placed her delicate hand on the boy's cheek, "I have already excepted the consequences for what I have caused." She leaned forward and brushed her lips against the lips of the summoner. Pulling away she smiled sadly at all of them, "Goodbye and I'm sorry."
With that she turned to face the black mage who now had his scythe in hand and black wings sprouted from his back. Not wanting to drag it out any longer, she stepped forward when suddenly white angel wings appeared. Silently the blue-eyed gil put up another barrier and took off into the air with the black mage in pursuit.
Duo threw a number of fireballs, ice blade and lightning bolts towards the female knight, but she reflected each and everyone.
Her skills were evenly matched with his. Going through the same training in Romefeller was going to make this so much harder than she had expected. She looked up and saw the blade of the scythe coming towards her. With only one chance, she swiftly brought her sword up, running right through her brother. And the scythe's blade had done the same thing to her…
The two bodies came crashing down to the earth and the barrier slowly crumbled. When the last piece of magic was gone the paladin and summoner ran over to them, holding them in their arms. Quatre stepped forward, but then felt the hand of his koi on his shoulder telling him to stay put in its silent manner.
Heero shook his love, "Duo? Duo open your eyes." A tear fell down the side of his face as he held the body close.
The dark clouds separated revealing a clear blue sky and the warm sun. The ground started to shake and flames started to form a small circle only a few inches away from the summoner.
Emerging from the flames was woman with long red hair, red eyes and firey wings. No emotion was shown on her face as she advanced towards them. "Do not be alarmed. I am here to take these two."
"Who are you?" the raven-haired boy questioned.
"I am Ruby, also known as the Phoenix. I was sent here by order of my master, Kamui. The two lying before you are not yet deceased however there is only one way see to it that they won't be." She held out her hand.
"Wait!" the blonde, shouted from behind the paladin. "Tell us, why did he suddenly-"
"Because he was angry. Time and time again 'he' would refer to 'himself' as Shinigami. Where as Shinigami does not exist. I am the giver of life and death. He built up so much anger when he was in that cave and became full of hate. That is towards Romefeller. Now if you'll excuse me…" like it was nothing she raised the two bodies into the air.
"Hold it." the lancer stepped closer, "How do you know all of that?"
"Kamui and his two servants are over seers of the planet. They know everything and pass on their knowledge where it is needed. Farewell…" she lifted herself and the two bodies into the air and slowly faded into the distance.
Heero stood from his spot on the ground and gave a small chase, "Duo!!" he stopped to catch his breath and noticed they were no longer in sight. He sank to his knees, his shoulders shuttering, "Duo…"
WuFei stayed in the same spot, too stunned to even speak. He watched the white knight for a moment, then something caught his eye. Only a few inches from him, he reached out grasped the object. Looking it over closely he then held it close, "Mura…"
